Halo 3 video hits Live Marketplace

360 News | Lowdown on the new Brutes.
A new Halo 3 video has appeared on the Xbox Live Marketplace, with both 480p and 720p versions available for download. The clip, which lasts for seven minutes, is dedicated to revealing more about the remodelled Brutes that Master Chief can expect to encounter in the third game of Bungie's monstrously successful series.

In the video, which also contains brief footage of Halo 3's highly anticipated single-player, we're promised that the Brutes are getting a considerable tune-up. So, say hello to improved armour (check out some of the new headdresses sported by the more senior ranking Brutes), a new pack mentality and generally higher levels of AI (they fight more like Elites now, apparently). Oh, and some of those animations are brutal - we even spotted a Chewbacca-style pulling-the-arms-off-your-enemy manouevre amongst them. Alas, the Brutes aren't going to to be playable.

These aren't small downloads by any means, though the 480p clip does weigh in at just under 100 MB, and it's a worthwhile watch. For those of you short on time or bandwidth, you can catch the entire video here.

Nothing special really from what I saw on that, hopefully they do fix the problems that I (and possibly many) had with Halo 2 single player.

(There's also and iinet Gamershell link as well Internode Games link available on the respective sites for those who need it with free quota).

The video was awesome. The single player is going to be bloody hard now that brutes are smarter.

That pack mentality AI sounds interesting, hopefully it'll lead to some great 'Oh ****!!' moments in the single-player icon_smile.gif

Wow I didnt think its possible to recreate the brutes, after halo 2.

If that video was supposed to get me hyped for the game, it failed miserably.

The thing I love about Bungie is they always tackle their games (Halo) from the perspective of the player. How much fun it's gonna be, how nice it is to look at, reactions etc. They try and add variety and fun and they try their utmost to balance. Balance, balance, balance....that's the key to successful games imo. They balance all the right elements, variety, fun, difficulty, wow factor, tech, controls, everything is just as important as the other and when all these aspects work in unison you get titles like Halo....and I don't care how the game looks at this stage.....just knowing they have kept the same mentality in designing the game as they had for Halo 1 is really all I need.

I'm real happy with that video....it was exactly what I needed to see. I feel sorry for those that aren't hyped after that video....they must not know what Bungie are all about.

I thought the graphics didn't look that flash IMO. Why did the elites leave again? I don't remember that bit....

No the graphics weren't too crash hot, but I think you might've missed the point of the doc if you were only looking for eye candy.

In short the Elites (the lead Elite - Arbitar) failed in Halo 1 so the brutes were given the task of being the official guards for the Covenant.

The Elites imo are the best enemy i've ever fought in a game by a huge margin. I'll miss those crazy elites....but if Bungie deliver on the new Brutes....we'll be in for a treat.

I agree with everything Ugh has said in this thread.

I'm really looking forward to see how the Brutes turn out. If Bungie manage to deliver all they spoke about in the video, without them getting too repetitive to fight. But, I suppose there'll be the usual slew of grunts and vehicles to spice things up.

That video reassured me quite a lot about the direction H3 is taking.

Yeah definitely the team-up aspect of the brutes is going to be a whole new kettle of fish and should make the game a whole load more enjoyable.
I mean c'mon! the bit where the captain says everyone throw grenades and the brutes all follow suit...that is going to be awesome and quite scary to see in action when it is fully polished.

I'm glad they have kind of steered away from the magilla gorilla look from halo 2, now they look like ultrabuff badarse elites on roids.

I think the prophets betrayed the elites, I dont think it was the arbitar's fault cause he was already punished at the start. But they did blame elites, chose brutes.

Yeah in halo 2, elite were way more smarter than average brute, all I knew they kept going crazy after you shoot them.

Before "Halo" there was a massive war between the Elites and the Prophets, which ended in a stalemate and the Covenment was formed. However both races never really trusted each other. The Brutes are relatively new to the Covenment and a pretty gullible so are wholly trusted by the Prophets.

The incidents in Halo 2 were just a "reason" for the Prophets to gain the upperhand and over through the Elites. In Halo 3 it's entirely possible we could have Elites allied with us along with the Marines icon_wink.gif

Ok, how come they never mention this in the game?

But arent prophets just couple guys, if the master chief killed regret or whoever, shouldnt the others be easily killed. And arent elites part of the convenment who's leaders are prophets and they all believe in the great journey? The conclusion should be interesting and it better feel in the voids.

There's a lot more story in Halo 2 then most people realise icon_wink.gif You've just gotta look hard and possible read the novels.
If you have to read a novel to get the story, then it's obviously not in the game, it's in the novel.
The novels merely help you make the connections from what's given to you in the game. The novels are canon and expand on the Halo Universe, they're really no different to the goodies you get in Collectors/Limited/Special Editions of games.

Yeah story doesnt extend more than objectives of the game, I really didnt get the ending and what the chief was doing.
