Psychonauts finally backwards compatible on 360?

360 Rumour | Shenmue II and Fahrenheit also on hastily withdrawn list.
After a wait of approximately forever, it looks like the Xbox version of Tim Schafer's ace Psychonauts could soon be backwards compatible on the Xbox 360. That's according to an updated version of the 360 BC list, which was allegedly posted on the official Xbox 360 site, only to be rapidly withdrawn from sight again. Following the concealing of the new list, Xbox community team member Chris Paladino told celebrating forum members: "We haven't made any announcements on this subject yet. Please hold off on freaking at this point in time. ;~)"

Still, here's hoping it turns out to be true, as Psychonauts is one superb platformer. The game earned an 8.0 when we reviewed it (not to mention one of our more groan-worthy puns as a blurb), and rightly so - it still stands up today as one of the best past-gen titles from the last couple of years.

Psychonauts was joined on the new list by a handful of other big names, with find-a-sailor sim Shenmue II and adventure game Fahrenheit also making overdue appearances. The rest of the list went something like this:
  • Buffy
  • Dead or Alive: Ultimate
  • Destroy All Humans
  • DW4
  • Evil Dead:FoB
  • Fahrenheit
  • Fairly Odd Parents: Breakin’ da Rules
  • Family Guy
  • Far Cry: Instincts
  • I-Ninja
  • Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude
  • Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
  • MotoGP
  • MX Unleashed
  • Open Season
  • Pariah
  • Psychonauts
  • Rainbow Six: Lockdown
  • Rapala Pro Fishing
  • Scarface
  • Shark Tale
  • Shenmue II
  • Splinter Cell: Double Agent
  • The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
  • Ultimate Spider-Man
  • Wakeboarding Unleashed: Featuring Sean Murray
  • Whacked!
  • Winback 2: Project Poseidon
  • Xiaolin Showdown
Obviously, we're still waiting for official confirmation on these, but the signs are promising.

Still no Mashed either! Gah!

However, it's good to see that they haven't abandoned the BC emulation as was once thought. I've been meaning to pick up Psychonauts for a long time now, having it BC might be the incentive I need to finally do it.

I love the fact that Shenmue 2 is on the list! icon_dance.gif
I'm not holding my breath though on it appearing though.
God I hope it is true.

That's the only game that I am truly looking forward too on the backward compatability list, screw psychonauts. icon_razz.gif icon_lol_old.gif

The main trick is most people are reasonable smart as to what games are backwards compatible.

I have been trying to find Black and its almost next to impossible to get it second hand.

Psychonauts would be a very good find also (another hard game to locate).

Black will be dropped to $49.95 on boxing day, SH prices should fall.

New games seem to appear immediately on the lists, I presume the developers are using a game engine that they know already is compatable. That's how a lot of the games on the list that make you go WTF end up on there, the BC guys make one game work and a bunch of others work too cause of it.

I am still quite surprised that both the Project Gotham games haven't been updated for this compatibility list. I mean, they are the second best selling franchise for the original Xbox behind Halo. Or so I've heard...
