Halo 3 images revealed

360 News | Multiplayer action.

Bungie has released high resolution screenshots of Halo 3. The images first appeared in magazines a few weeks ago so it's good that the images have been posted for all to see.

Halo 3 is still a year or so away, but this hasn't stopped the hype machine from already beginning. A teaser trailer will be shown quickly on American television this month. and early next year a multiplayer public beta of the game will be released. It's set to be one of the biggest titles of 2007 and we'll be keeping a close eye on it.

We advise you to head to the Media Panel for a closer look at the screenshots. We'll report more on Halo 3 as soon as more information becomes available.

^ Bungie said these are place-holder type graphics, so the final game should look better (so yeah, they are in-game but it should improve).

this game is looking great, i like the 1st and second one but im not going to get a xbox360 so again i mis out just like the second one (got 1st on computer and played 2nd on my cousins xbox thats how i know the 1st and 2nd ones were good without an xbox)

Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but again Halo 1 texture in Super-high res. Is just the design I guess, looking at GOW, really original, very fresh. Looking at this, seen it, seems old, like we play it sometime before. Then again, there's always the don't fix it if it ain't broke theory. This is all just multiplayer though, hopefully the design of maps & such in single player would be much more original & a step up from the series.

Plus the game is still a year off, there's a lot that can be done in a year. Currently though it doesn't look that impressive especially considering the bar that Gears of War has set.

Yup look like halo 2 with better texture filtering, draw distance and AA.

yep, and that's understandable. I just hope that they do change the visual style a bit, and I'm expecting them to match Gears at least. Like I said previously, Halo 3 is going to have to look insanely good and play insanely good to match gears

I got up to image 3 and the first thing that jumped at me was the awkward way the blue guy is holding his gun, but then I went to image 2 and that picture alone made it look awesome.

I'm 100% fine with Halo 3 multiplayer being high-res Halo 1/2. Not broke, don't fix.

However, as far as the single-player goes, it'll need some serious variety or I'll be a very unhappy chappy.

Gears of war has now set the bar, with Bungie having to step up to the plate. I am confident Halo 3 will look better than Gears. With Microsoft looking over the development, I have no doubts whatsoever.

Confidence people, this is an early build, with so much more to come.

Yes, that's the main thing that keeps me 100% faithful. If Microsoft are overlooking both Gears and Halo, there's no question they'll release Halo looking better than Gears, considering the stature of the franchise.

I am very happy to hear that these are only placeholder graphics. Because these images look like something the original xbox could handle...

gears of war looked awesome on my brother-in-laws large screen standard-definition TV. The amount of visual information and detail in the environments...from cracks in walls to debris strune all over the place coupled with the amount of detail in the textures... And the amount of geometry within the scene at one time is truely astounding...These halo images just look flat in comparison.

It is great seeing microsoft getting there hands dirty in getting these games made. I can see Microsofts master hardware geeks getting in under the bonnet together with the devlelopers to get the games humming...

Question - If an image doesn't represent the final product, why release it at all?

Highly disappointed here. I'm guessing particle effects and what not will be added in the next year to make it look pretty, but you're seeing the basic game there. For a AAA+ title that is not looking all that crash hot.

Yeah, especially since majority of people won't know that they are "place-holders" and will write it off as the final, not-so-great-looking product.

Still, I like the colours...

Why the hell does it look like Halo 2?

Hopefully they will really overhaul it because at the moment it looks like a old xbox game not a leading 360 game.

Because it's something to do. Those textures are probably just high res Halo 2 ones. Go have a look at the announcement trailer for better textures. At least we know the voice acting in Halo 3 will be leagues ahead of Gears.
