Complementary Live Gold Weekend announced

360 News | To celebrate Emergence Day.
The Gears of War hype train is running full stream ahead, today Microsoft announced that Australian gamers will get a free weekend of Xbox Live Gold. Commencing from 3pm EST, Friday 24th of November until 10pm EST, Sunday 26th of November every person with an Xbox 360 and a broadband connection in Australia will be able to play Gears of War.

The regional director of Microsoft Australia and New Zealand, David McLean says “‘Gears of War is a phenomenal title that truly demonstrates the next generation power of Xbox 360. The buzz around this game is sky high and we expect Gears of War to reach one million sales worldwide faster than any previous original Xbox game", Wonder if that counts Halo 2, David?

Despite the PR lingo, we must admit that Gears of War is a very solid title and easily a showcase of the Xbox 360's capabilities. If you haven't had a chance yet, why not have a read of our review?

Really it's things like this that really lead me to believe Microsoft are currently one of the best things to happen to gaming in a while. Not to mention the region free 1st party games they are currently making for the 360 and the phenomenal amount of content on the marketplace every week!

This on top of the $250 worth of stuff thing they did when they launched the Xbox 1 in australia for the early adopters because the price dropped by that much a couple of weeks later.

Swisho. Awesome deal. However i think it would have been better to maybe just have it at a lower price, for a longer period of time...

Oh and
every person with an Xbox 360 and a broadband connection in Australia will be able to play Gears of War.

I do believe silver is free on 360 and you get
* Create your gamer profile
* Create and maintain a friends list
* Access Xbox Live Marketplace including Xbox Live Arcade, demos, and trailers
* Send and receive text and voice messages
* Join in special Xbox Live Gold trial opportunities
* Access massively multiplayer games
Whereas gold
All the Silver level benefits PLUS:

* Great online multiplayer gameplay
* Xbox Live Marketplace: Get both exclusive and early access content
* Revolutionary TrueSkillâ„¢ matchmaking
* Enhanced gamer feedback
* Enhanced friends list
management
So basically Gold allows you to play games online, whereas silver is only mmorpg games online

*Pulled from xbox website*
