Gears of War 2, anyone?

360 News | First one leaves room for a sequel, apparently.
Gears of War launches on the Xbox 360 later this month in PAL regions, yet already we're being teased with headline-grabbing hints from those involved with the game that a sequel "shouldn't be ruled out."

Speaking in an interview with CVG, Epic president Mike Capps was first up, telling the site, "We've spent time developing a rich universe for Gears, and the story is absolutely larger than the one told in the game. One could even argue that the ending cinematic leaves room for a sequel". Well, colour us amazed. Still, Capps also mentioned that the team behind the Xbox 360 shooter "have a fair amount of rest and relaxation to worry about first."

Meanwhile, the annoyingly named Cliffy B, lead designer on the game, joined in the Capps chorus, proclaiming that he "loves the universe and everything involved in it and if the game does amazingly well I wouldn't rule anything out!" Then again, he's also going to "wait for the gamers out there to play through the game before coming to any conclusions about future products." Which sounds sensible, "Cliffy".

Never would have thought this would be coming.

No really.

Okay I lie. Predictable stuff but who the hell cares? It's Gears of War and while hype is pumping the game up immensely I think it is pretty obvious that it will be an awesome game. So if it means becoming a franchise and the Gears universe suits it then bring it on.
