EA has released some of the first Tiger Wood's PGA Tour 07 content on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and it seems as though the days of button combinations unlocking cheats are over - all you have to do now to unlock all of the content on the Marketplace is pay a whopping 1140 points, the equivalent of two retro Live Arcade titles.
Nevertheless, if you are tempted by the content, you can actually purchase it all seperately:
Unlock Golfer - 200 points
Pro Shop - 300 points
Maxed out player - 200 points
Sunday Tiger - 240 points
Unlock Courses - 200 points
We'll have more information on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 shortly, so stay tuned to PALGN for an Xbox 360 review soon. Meanwhile, we're hoping this news doesn't set a precedent. If you still want the content and are willing to work for it, then you can actually unlock this stuff in game; it just requires hard work.
The truth is, if you can unlock everything in this game by completing certain levels/tournaments/whatever, then this pay for it if you're lazy is very pointless.
And Sin, I don't condone $120 games, but if I'm itching for GOW and COD3, what am I to do?
The thing is games have always cost money....$120, $80, $10....it's always been changing....like most things you pay for, but cheat codes were free...and now they cost money! That sux!
It's kinda like the fishing license! People start charging for stuff just cuz they know they can! Next we'll have to pay to collect rainwater (actually happens in Bolivia). When this sort of stuff starts to directly affect people then you'll see what we're talking about. Imagine someone who uses cheat codes the moment they get a game because they're not good enough at games (like they need god mode to enjoy it etc) or that's just their thing....do you think they WANT to pay extra for this stuff?! No f'ing way but they're gonna have to aren't they? No choice!
Some people are just selfish...just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean it's ok!

So basically you're saying that you have no problem paying any amount for game as long as they don't have extra charges afterwards? So you'd rather pay $140 for the game with cheat codes then you would pay $120 and have the option of paying $20 for cheat codes if you wanted them?
This 'More money! More money!' attitude is definately a load of crap, I agree. But at the moment its not as bad as it is likely to be soon.
*groan*....uhhh maybe you missed my point...I don't wanna pay for cheat codes, whether it's included in the price or not!!
And where did I say i'm cool with paying any amount for games?! All I said was that games have always been different prices and cheat codes have always been free! You really have a way of twisting the point huh?
People keep accepting this stuff as "ok" then of course it's gonna become the norm!

It seems to me that you are saying you have a problem with is paying extra on top of the game price for cheat codes, but you don't really have a problem paying extra for a game itself. Is this correct?
In which case, lets say (hypothetically, because I know its not at all true) that the reason games went from a maximum of $100 to a maximum of $120 was purely because of inlcuding cheat codes. I know, its stupid, but bare with me. Of course, companies would never say "oh yeah, its gone up because cheat codes are worth $20", so you'd just go an pay $120 without a second thought (if what I think you are saying is correct).
But then, what if the company said they were going to keep their games at $100 (or drop them back down to $100), but they had no cheat codes, so if you wanted to get them, you had to pay an extra $20. So both games are the exact same price with cheat codes, but if you don't use them you don't have to spend that extra $20.
Of course, thats not whats actually happening, and, if it was I assume nobody would have a problem with any of this. But still, I just can't figure out what you were trying to say when you complain about cheat codes not being free but basically say "eh, $10, $80, $120, whats the difference? Games have always cost money. I don't care if the prices change"
Something like that anyway. Its all too hypothetical anyway.
But i'm not cool with paying $120 for a game! I see what you're getting at...but no No nO NO! No paying $120 (but that's a different topic), no paying for cheat codes, no fishing licence, no paying for rainwater!
Arrgghhhhhh....those damn crazy pills!!!
I know companies are so dodgy chances are i've always paid for cheat codes and have not known it....but aGk....
f@#k it! EA JUST SUCK!!
EDIT: ANd....I know this will come back to bite me in the ass....but i've only paid $120 for a game once! That was when Dead Rising had just come out and I went to Westfield in Castlehill via bus (cuz my car was in the shop)...basically I was expecting to pay $100 but K-Mart were sold out (so EB couldn't price match there), and JB Hi-Fi is not in the Westfield there...so that would've been another $5 there and back plus the effort...and I didn't wanna give EB my money cuz the guy behind the counter was sh!t so I went to target and paid $120 just like everywhere in the whole westfield! If I had gone to Jb and saved an extra $5 but wasted a couple of hours....then i'd be an idiot.....alternatively if I had gone home empty handed I would also be an idiot. So just that one time because my car was in the shop....that was it....oh yea....also I had the whole week off work.....as if I wasn't gonna buy Dead Rising on launch day!
That's all for you DIU...I wrote that just for you!
Fishing Licences are a bit of a bad example, since they were introduced to ensure fishing remained viable and renewable. people were over-fishing, so by making it no longer free, it cut down on the number of people fishing, bringing the fish population back to a more sustainable size. obviously bag limits and size limits were no longer enough.
the paying for rainwater thing fits with argument though.
you're paying for something that happens whether you like it or not. next you'll be paying some government because the rain is watering your garden/rinsing your car.
As far as I recall there is a tax on rainwater. At the very least it's being discussed.
Uni was free and now it costs money, does this mean you won't bother going to University? Like I said, if it's truly an issue, don't pay, the only way EA will learn is if people don't pay the money. It's all well and good to jump on a message board and whine your head off but that acheives nothing, actually take a stand, set up a site with a petition against the idea, tell everyone you know to boycott the process.
Don't just complain on here, and then get narky because someone doesn't feel the need to bitch and moan about something which is completely voluntary on the consumers part anyway.
^^Heh, there you go - I didn't realise it was in Metal Gear games. Kinda strange that it's given it wasn't in NES (or MSX) Metal Gear.
It mostly died out in 'pure form' when the SNES came around, and they made it more complicated (using X, Y L and R etc) and therefore less iconic. And Sony's stupid shapes for button names further killed it off.
Lol....i'll bitch and moan all I want cuz honestly that's my right! Also i've never needed cheat codes so this doesn't affect me at all, so no I won't setup any petition or website....i'll just keep bitching and moaning if that's ok with you?
I guess it'll have to do, but any respect I may have had for your input has now been completely thrown out the window, not that you'd care because you're obviously far too ignorant for such an undertaking. So please refrain from responding to anything I post, as you'll just make yourself look stupider with every word typed.
aGk...well i didn't actually mean that...it's not that I don't like you....I just don't like you when we're discussing this topic....cuz it seems like i'm wrong.
Anyways sorry dude....I didn't mean to offend ya with anything I said.
Also I didn't mean to get narky. Honestly the most exciting thing about my day at work here is on the Palgn forums....so yea...don't mind me when I get a little carried away.
Here's something people may not know also regarding the Konami code.
Did you know that on the original streetfighter 2 arcade machine you could put in the code(on attract screen) and debug code would come up on the screen until it was switched off.
It was on the same machine version where you could do the invisible throw and guile medium kick lock up.
Anyways it was up,up,down, down, left, right, left, right light punch medium punch.
Try it if ya see an old streeties machine about.
Oh it also had to be entered on the 2p side.
