BAFTA crowns achievements in gaming

360 News | Hot Dog, we have a weiner!
Every so often, a bunch of chaps like to get together and hand out some accolades to particularly good games of the months gone by. Some are older than others, and may have been forgotten - and yet some receiving recognition have only been released for a few weeks. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts sure are a crazy bunch.

The coveted Game award was presented to none other than Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter for the Xbox 360. Some controversy there for some, but all-around a quality title. Lego Stars Wars II gave the big guns a run for their money; nominated for several awards and winning the Gameplay category. A disappointment for Bethesda, developer of unquestionably epic RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? You decide.

Shadow of the Colossus picked up two awards, in Artistic Achievement and the Action Adventure category. One must then ask the question - how did SOTC get recognised as the better game over GRAW in the Action Adventure category - then fail to even receive a nomination in the Game category, in which GRAW emerged victorious? Those wacky BAFTA kids are at it again!

In any case, feel free to peruse the full list of winners below, and proceed to the forums to give us your take on the winners and losers. The categories are highlighted in bold, and the respective winners in italics. Hey, they are all winners. Except for the losers.

But seriously, Han Solo in Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy(LucasArts/Traveller's Tales) gets number 2 as best character? So, and correct me if I'm wrong here, the award is basically going to the movie character... seeing as how there isn't all that much character built in the Lego games...
Yeah, I call bullsh!t on that.

The award went to LocoRoco, hence why it's in italics. icon_shifty.gif Looks like someone didn't read the post.

Some of these seem rediculous though. GRAW for technical achievement? Sure it looks great, but it's on next gen hardware, hardly fair pitting it against SOtC - which is arguably more accomplished. The multiplayer title looks like they picked the name from a hat. Tomb Raider: Legends getting original score?

Oh well it's a set of new awards, let's hope next year there's a bit more balance.
