WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2007 demo on Xbox Live

360 News | Smack it down.
The latest batch of downloadable content has been released on the Xbox Live Marketplace. It's now day 8 of Microsoft's 'Bringing it Home' campaign, and the content is becoming a bit more substantial. The following is now available for download:

Trailers: Tony Hawk's Project 8, Wheelman, Frontlines Fuel of War, X06 Game Montage, Crossfire

Demos: WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2007

Gamer Pics and Themes: Fable 2 Theme, X06 Theme

We'd give our impressions on the Smackdown demo, but it's downloading slower than the Rock's movie career. Anyway, there's only a few days left of 'Bringing it Home', so we're hoping that even better content is revealed tomorrow. We'll report back once it's available.

Oh my god Smackdown Vs Raw is actually quite good icon_surprised.gif

Stamina bar = great
Small reversal windows = great
Slower gameplay = great

Those 3 things alone pretty much fixes the problems that every wrestling game I've played since No Mercy had. They've all been too fast, has overly excessive amount of reversals to the point of silliness and had stupid things like getting up straight away after falling off the Hell in a Cell or taking 3 seconds to recover from getting busted open in the face.

The controls are still a bit of a mystery to me at the moment but this is good stuff. I love being able to set up a table, hold people in the air, walk to the table then chokeslam them through it. Technically it's decent at best with mostly the same animations as the PS2 games and the graphics aren't THAT much better really, but there's some nice little touches like HHH getting visibly wet when he spits the water out and blood actually dripping down thier face onto the mat. I dunno if i'll spend £40 on this, especially since I swore off THQ's wrestling games since Day of Reckoning 2 but I might go and trade in some old Xbox games I'll never touch again to soften the blow.

So you're saying you can do moves through tables without having the stupid grapple on the top?

Day or Reckoning 2 was a frickin sweet game(on gc anywways).

The reversals pretty much ruined it for me, they were too easy. 2 player games with my mate just turned into a string of reversals - something we hated the Smackdown games for also. Specials were too easy to get too, you charge one up and if you manage to use it once you can more often than not use it again straight after and before you know it you're 80% towards building up another one. Solid engine, decent controls, but largely spoilt by these two things for me.

Sounds quite promising, thanks for the short preview Chris. Can you please write a more in-depth piece? Possibly make a preview?

Agreed with your points on DoR/Wrestlemania series for the GameCube. They had quite nice systems until the point where getting specials was too easy and reversals were the main aim of the game and they too were far too easy to perform. It's still a hit at parties though, 3 Way TLC matches FTW.

I still don't know whether to get this game yet for the PS2 after the dissapointing 06 edition which basically just roughed the edges off the 05 edition.

A single match, HHH Vs Kane, no time limit.

^ Thanks for that. It seems a little large just for one match but I spose thats all they really need to give to get people to judge on the game. Im still going to download it though, 2006 was a great game.

Awesome game. This is gonna be such a hit. Very very well done. Shame about the size of the demo but hey - I would rather have the demo than not.
