Capcom denies RE5 exclusivity rumours

360 News | PS3 won't miss out, after all.
Capcom has delivered a fatal, blood-spattered headshot to recent Internet rumours that suggested Resident Evil 5 would be released on the Xbox 360 only. Speaking to Next-Gen about the follow-up to 2005's outstanding Resident Evil 4, a Capcom representative stated: “Just to be clear, this is a multiplatform simultaneous launch on PS3 and Xbox 360.” Hoo-rah, etc.

Whereas some Japanese studios are reluctant to work with Microsoft's console due to its underwhelming performance in Japan, Capcom has proven enthusiastic in comparison. The company's keenness has paid off as well, with Dead Rising proving a considerable commercial hit since its release just a few weeks ago. And now, it looks as though 360 owners will be enjoying another zombie-fest from the developer that does zombie-fests like no other can.

More on Resi 5 as it arrives, naturally.

Aww. No wii. Pity that would have been awesome. Good news on PS3 though

I dunno, all these rumours normally have some turth, M$ would dearly love to get these exclusive for a while, espically in Japan. That's rubbish about Capcom's concern about Japanese gamers, look at Dead Rising and Lost Planet. I think M$ will pull something out of the bag down the track...

I would laugh at the request for a crappy Wii version if it wasn't for:

Multiplatform simultaneous release?! Oh please no! Not Resident Evil!!! Noooooooooo!! Capcom....please just 1 version at a time!

No...this isn't good news at all for me!! icon_sad.gif My fave game is been given my pet peeve treatment....and that's being developed multiplatform! It's always been a port in the past and i've always bought the original version! Now there will be 2 original versions!!

Seriously this can't be happening! Capcom have never disapointed me with Resident Evil....but i'm not about to let them start!!

As long as it isn't PS3 exclusive then I'll be a happy man. Can't wait for this game icon_biggrin.gif

In defence of the article, it says that Capcom has shown a greater interest in the Xbox 360 than some other Japanese developers. It says nothing of Capcom's concern about Japanese gamers.

Aren't they making a seperate Resident Evil for the Wii, like Sega is doing for Sonic?

^ Yeah, Resident Evil: Umbrella Cronicles I think. I don't know too much about that game either, but I'm sure it'll be a must buy.

I don't understand all this negativity going towards the Wii. Does anyone realise the potential that console and its controller has for the video game industry and even for the survival horror genre?

Imagine for a moment playing a RE game on the Wii. You're walking down a darkly lit corridor, in the distance there are zombie moans, you hear something behind you getting closer and closer. There's a door up ahead that you need to go through, you're out of ammo, you are in the worst possible scenario and your salvation lies behind that door.

You reach the door and through the Wii-mote's speaker you hear the creature getting real close now and you're in a panic to get the door open, so you have to be quick, you are frantically (not only in the game but in reality) getting the door open and getting into the next room before the creature kills you.

Now that introduces a totally interactive experience for survival horror, a new era of suspense in survival horror games. Isn't that experience worth striving for and hoping for? I know I would love that, it would add to the atmosphere greatly.

So the Wii-mote introduces a completely new way of interacting with games. We thought games were interactive, but they aren't. True interactivity will be performing the exact same actions and movements in real-time so the character does in the game what we do in our 3D space.

This means that, as in my example above, when you want to open a door you have to actually move your arm forward so your character can grab the door's handle, then turn your wrist to open the door then pull back to open the it. (surely this isn't new to those who heard about what you do in Metroid Prime to open doors on the Wii?)

I know its only early stages but just imagine the possibilities. Thats what Nintendo does, they don't limit themselves to the present, they're always looking forward to the future too, the future of the industry.

I think we all need to be grateful for what this company has done for the industry, regardless of whether you only like Microsoft or Sony, or whether you think Nintendo has dropped the ball, you have to admit they changed the industry and without them you would not have the consoles you have today.

So I welcome the Wii with open arms and I also continue to imagine the possibilities along with Nintendo.

Nintendo dreams and most often those dreams become reality. Even if they fail at this console and retire out of video games, at least the ride with them was worth it.

^ Lol....hey other people get how the Wiimote works too you know? But not everyone wants to have to stick out their hand, pretend to grab something and then twist to have to open a frickin' door! Honestly....i'd rather just press 'X'. When I perform these mundane functions all day every day...the last thing I wanna be doing is doing it for recreational purposes. I'd rather just take in some sound, graphics and a good story. I still prefer movies to games because quite honestly I can get some enjoyment with a lot less effort. If I wanna interact....i'll go clubbing, go for a drive, play some sports or hang out with some mates among other things. If I wanna relax....i'll play video games watch movies etc.

Yea I remember one time Nintendo dreamt about this virtual reality machine....I don't remember the details very cleary unfortunately...they seem to be clouded in some sort of red haze... icon_eek.gif

Oh yea this other time Nintendo had this dream after the success of the SNES to partner up with Sony to create a cd based console...i'm not too sure what happened there though...

I'm not afraid to admit of Nintendo's failures, afterall they are part of the industry and of real-life.

The Virtual Boy was a big failure indeed. But I ask you this, who else dared to experiment?

With the CD based console the PlayStation came out of that and utilised that technology and introduced it to the video game industry, but even though it never came to be with Nintendo, their interest in that technology was the catalyst for Sony picking up that ball and running with it.

I understand that there are many gamers who just want to sit down and press a button to do things and that is completely fine. Personally I'd love to have more intense interactivity.

I agree Nintendo have done a lot for the industry (d-pad, analogue stick, rumble pack etc).

Pumping money into R&D is what a lot of hardware manufacturers do (in other words....experiment)....the fact that the Virtua Boy actually came out in marketable form is an error on the companies part. Releasing undeveloped or useless tech isn't something that should be praised.

Hey I used to be a huge Nintendo fan (and still am when it comes to their games) but have Nintendo started experimenting because they want to move the industry foward and to give players new experiences or is it because they're just don't have the balls to compete with Sony & Microsoft in another next-gen war? Being a long time Nintendo fan....to me it seems kinda drastic that both their next gen machines (DS & Wii) are complete detours from what they have done in the past (which is a traditional style of console). It seems to me they're 'daring to experiment' only because they have no choice.

Also I know the Playstation resulted from the Nintendo Sony thing...I was just being sarcastic there.

Look i'm not bagging Nintendo for the direction they have taken, i'm just saying as a long time Nintendo fan and an even longer gamer....Nintendo just don't seem to be offering me what I want for my gaming needs.

Your just mad cause you DS Lite has a crack Ugh! icon_smile.gif

What you're saying ugh is spot on, and thanks for bringing your sarcasm to my attention, lol I missed it when reading.

The view that Nintendo are experimenting because they don't want to compete with Microsoft and Sony is a valid view. My view is that they're going about things the way an independent filmmaker would. Instead of adhering to what Hollywood does, an independent filmmaker experiments and goes their own way.

I believe that's the strategy Nintendo is employing.
Honestly....I would love it if it were that simple.....unfortunately the crack was the icing on the cake....also that's just Nintendo of Australia that i'm pissed off with....Nintendo of America and Japan are actually fixing it for free in their respective territories....so I don't have a beef with Nintendo at all.

The problem first began with the super nintendo and nintendo's decision to try and censor the games, another problem then arose with the 64 and Nintendo's decision to not go cd, this happened again (except with dvd this time) when the gamecube came out (their ignorance irks me), by then all that pokemon rubbish had made a name for itself so there you have reason 4, the announcement of some fandangled new controller when all I really want are Nintendo games which play exactly like they always have, then came a name change from Revolution to Wii (some idiot!!!)....which completely baffled me....and started cementing to me the fact that Nintendo really are becoming a very different company (in other words commercialised) or that they were losing their mind.

I seriously only bought the DS for one (maybe 2) reasons....and that is Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow....so when New Super Mario Bros and the DS-Lite was announced I thought it might be high-time I got one. To my joy another Castlevania title was announced shortly after along with another Yoshi's Island. So quite honestly if it wasn't for those games I wouldnt've even bought one because there is nothing else I want....and the stylus is an absolute chore to use and I HATE it!! I despise the little pen like object!!! It sux for games, it doesn't add anything new or interesting....Oh wow....touch here to select this, or to make thingymibob move....oh wow now i've seen everything!

So it's not the crack on the DS at all....Nintendo just aren't doing it for me anymore (for lack of a better term).

Well I wouldn't agree with all those points. Nintendo made a brave move. They knew if they tried to compete with M$ or Sony, they would have gone the way of the Sega (which was crap cause I loved the Dreamcast). Sony are a hardware company, and have an agenda to push blue-ray into our homes. M$ are just giant, and will throw money at something until it's the market leader. Nintendo does not have the power to compete on a raw technology level, and I personally am excited to see them go in this direction and focus on creating some new, but at the same time delivering timeless classics.

Nintendo's insanity is well documented, but throughout all of this, I still have had the most rich gaming experinces with Nintendo products and do think it will continue to go this way. Nintendo Australia does need a big clean out, all they seem to do is distribute games and nothing else.

RE:The DS touchscreen. I think it adds to the handheld expereince, it's not meant to replace traditional means. I mean, games like Brain Training, Nintendogs, Ouendan or Kirby would not be possible on anything else. Perhaps these games aren't you cup of tea, but they do reach out and grab some gamers (like me who will give anything a go). But yes, the touch screen has been abused (ie in Castlevania drawing the stupid seals). I think the DS's best quality has been the two screens to be honest. I think it does add quite a lot to gaming, like with a map etc.

And hey, don't bag out pokemon. That's a fantastic RPG icon_smile.gif I'm hanging out for the full DS version!

We're pretty much giving nintendo points for effort, here. Innovation does not automatically = good. Who cares if Sony are a hardware company, or if Microsoft throw money at anything they wish to acquire? They get results.

As of X06, Microsoft have an arse-load of exclusive games for the 360, as well as a very impressive backlog of Live Arcade games and a very strong online component.

As of TGS, all Nintendo have shown us is a console that fails to improve in the audio/visual department (The Wii still uses DPLII, no digital, not to mention they actually managed to make a 2 year old game look worse on the Wii), a method of control that may or may not work, and a whole load of games that have the gameplay depth of a bathtub.

If Nintendo are after a greater level of immersiveness, then I think they're going in the wrong direction. For me, immersiveness comes from Graphics and Sound, not waving a remote around.

That said, I'm staying cautiously optimistic.

Don't forget that a lot of Nintendo's hardcore fanboys are young enough to drown in bath tubs... icon_wink.gif

I guess at 22 I'm just too damn old for the fangdangled HD graphics, lol!

To me graphics don't mean anything. I still get enjoyment out of NES, SNES, N64 and PsOne games.

To get BACK on topic, RE5 being multiplatform is pretty much a given, it's something companies have to do now. I'm not overly fussed either way, I'll find some way of owning it.
Plus the reason RE5 is not on the Wii and they get their own is because it'd be unfair to either Wii or 360/PS3 owners. For the Wii you could get tacked on controls with an jumpy frame rate, or for the others you could get super bland previous generation graphics and sound for a $120 game.
