Just Cause demo released

360 News | Sneaks in just before Saint's Row hits shelves.
The official demo for Just Cause has been released on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The Marketplace has had a lot of activity in the last few days, with Texas Hold 'Em released two days ago and a new Test Drive Unlimited demo becoming available yesterday. Now Eidos is keeping our Xbox 360s powered on with the new Just Cause demo, which weighs in at a decent 632Mb.

In the game you have to take out a quartet of corrupt army generals, and then transport a vehicle to a location. The actual island you play on isn't in the final game, which means that the island has been created just for the demo, which seems a little bizarre.

A PC demo is also available and can be downloaded here. Just Cause will be available next month in PAL territories, and will be released on Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and PC.

Downloaded the demo overnight, spent about half on hour with it this morning before heading into work. First impressions? Underwhelmed to Ohhh... fun! in about 10 minutes.

I'd fallen under the hype machine for this game, and I was a little let down immediately by the controls - specifically the floaty-ish vehicle handling. However, that took about 5 minutes to adjust to. Plus theres a decent 'close-to-road' first person cam accessible while driving that is a very nice touch IMO.
The stunt moves are great fun, and being able to sort of combo from vehicle to vehicle is neat. I was hoping for a freely controlled aiming system (like Saints Row), but the lock-on (GTA style) works pretty well.

I can't help but think of it like Total Overdose mk.2 - but with the Max Payne style moves removed, a huge (proper) sandbox playground added, and some nice Mercenaries inspiration.

Can't wait to spend some more time messing around with that demo.

Watched the trailer, took away from that -

1) Terrible graphics (thought it looked like a early PS2 game)
2) Awful character design
3) Overall try hard (since when is it cool to skydive onto a car with your guns drawn?)

Read a preview over at some gaming site (Eurogamer I think) and they were trying to say nice things, but you could tell the publisher gave them a free copy and they were not trying to bag it to much.

No early ps2 game has ever looked this good.I assume you're talking about the 480p vids? they look like crap compared to in game in 720p.

Yes character seems like a very cliche sort of desperado guy, but damn the stunts he can pull off, wow.
I especially loved the finale of the demo I won't spoil it but OMFG! you thought auto assault had some carnage. :O
Nothing on this.

I will definitely be getting this one.
I just hope they have the option to re-map the controls/sensitivity.

i didn't know anything about the game untill I saw a video of it 2 nights ago..

I think it looks like 'Hot Pursuit' for consoles. I'm definately interested as I always though a game like Hot Pursuit would've been better suited for consoles. Anyways can't wait to try out the demo tonight.

Well it is a multi-gen title, which tends to equal only slightly incremental improvements on the graphics for the higher-end platforms. Does that mean it should be avoided though? Burnout Revenge did pretty damn well on the 360, and that looked thoroughly 'last-gen'.

At this stage I'm not sure whether I'd want to pay full price for it - especially when I'll likely still be busy with Saints Row when this comes out... Damn I hate having to balance time/money/games.

I don't know where these hot pursuit and burnout comparisons are coming from. Both are totally different games.
If I had to compare Just Cause to any other game it would be a cross between GTA(free roam, multi vehicle), boiling point(free roam jungle, mountains etc), Bloodwake(high speed aquatic vehicle obliteration) and full auto(car weapons).

Played the demo for an hour or so this afternoon (in between the kids having goes). Graphics aren't that bad but not great and the game play is pretty cool but the 1 thing that lets the whole game down is the dumbed down aiming system, sort of a cross between GTA and Saints row where it does have a free aiming cross (thats really bloody hard to see most of the time) but as soon as you get it within 10 feet of your target it locks on. I hope that the PC version has a fully manual aiming system or this game would be another one that my kids would love but I would feel unable to get into.

P.S how the hell do you use the grapling hook? can't seem to figure it out.

Right thumb stick button = manual (over the shoulder) aim

Current impressions: This one has potential

Been playing the PC demo, pretty good fun, although there are somethings that definately need a lot of tweaking (especially the controls inside vehicles).
