Next Splinter Cell delayed

360 News | Release date creeps back a month.
Ubisoft has confirmed that Splinter Cell: Double Agent, the next entry in Sam Fisher's highly popular stealth series, has been pushed back by a month, to October 2006. Normally, we'd be a bit cross, but hey - Ubisoft also threw a new batch of screenshots of the game our way, not to mention some more details about what the multiplayer in the game will involve, so it's all good.

And it turns out that the multiplayer has been chopped and changed a bit for the Xbox 360 and PC versions. Whereas on Xbox and PS2 players are still stuck with the old-fashioned (but actually quite fun) Spy versus Spy mode and a couple of variations, those who buy the Xbox 360 and PC versions will have a new Versus Mode and a Challenge Mode, which apparently, "allows the team to provide the players with an online recruitment and progression experience as a secret agent."

Head to the Media Panel to see the newest eight shots of the game in action (they're all taken from the Xbox 360 version), and there's a Q&A with the developers as well over at the official Splinter Cell site, if choking, knifing and administering the ol' death-grip on unsuspecting victims in the dark is your thing. Weirdo.

Sad news, hopefully the online component (for the 360) is brillant as was SC:PT. Looking to this to make the next mark on Xbox Live.
