C&C looks to conquer 360

360 News | Hot on the heels of Battle of Middle Earth.
Despite lacking the quintessential compents for a real-time strategy game - namely a keyboard and mouse - it seems that the Xbox 360 is becoming a second home for the RTS genre. We'll leave it to you to decide whether or not this is because of Xbox Live, but it seems that EA is looking to take advantage of this. With Lord of the Rings: The Battle of Middle Earth II set for a release in the very near future, another of EA's staple RTS titles is in development for the Xbox 360, with Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars confirmed to be in development for the platform.

Other than the fact that the same team behind the LOTR port is involved, no other information has been made available to us at this point in time. The PC version isn't due till next year, and there's little doubt that the game will be utilising Xbox Live. Some sort of keyboard and mouse support by the time it's released would be interesting, but we're not holding our breath.

PALGN will bring you more as it becomes available to us.

Awesome

But how on earth would you control a game like this?

Probably as terribly as C&C on PS1... I think I'll stick with the PC titles.

We'll see how Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth controls, I'm sure C&C will have the same or a very similar control scheme.

Can't say I'm really interested in console versions of RTS, obviously due to the control schemes.

Although Im not into RTS games at all I really look forward to this if it means more pressure on MS to bring in mouse and keyboard support for the 360. Its a shame that I have a shiny 360 sitting in the living room pretty much unused while I plan on building a spanking new PC so I can play some god damn games!

You should check out some of the video of LOTR for 360, I feel they have really nailed the control system as it only uses 1 button and the direction pads, nothing more. They have simplified down to pure perfection.

You guys do know the 360 has full USB keyboard support with the last update right? at least it does in the dashboard.

^ They mean "WSAD" + "Mouse Look" for FPS.

I love C&C it's always been my RTS of choice....but there's no way i'm playing it without a mouse. So hopefully they include that. I don't care if it uses no buttons....sticks are crap for selecting things in RTS games.

Not very often. There is just not anything that I have found that sucks me in to play. I have Oblivion and PGR3 but I find that they bore me very quickly. If I could use at least a mouse I could look forward to quite a few FPS games that look really good on the 360. At the moment the only game that I am looking forward to on the 360 is Forza2.

yeah i can see it now $90 for PC version, or $120 dollars for the 360 version.

Sorry, I just don't see it doing as well as the PC counterpart, RTSes have never been a big selling point on consoles due to the controls, no mouse, no hotkeys, and limited amount of buttons. Even if it is compatible with the USB keyboard using the controller as a mouse is just too wierd.
