Halo 3 at E3

360 News | You wouldn't think otherwise.

IGN have put their heads on the chopping block by explicitly saying that the rumours are true and that the next game in the Halo series will be at this year's E3. According to their sources, it will appear in video form at the Microsoft press conference on May 9th.

We have only been informed that the video will be two minutes long and that no contents will be revealed. Speculation is dictating that the video will be in real-time, in order to take the mickey out of the CG videos shown at the Sony conference last year. Microsoft only gave their usual reply, "We don't comment on speculation and rumors".

Despite the comments that Bill made once upon a time, that Halo 3 will launch with the PS3, it has since been reiterated by Microsoft that it will be released when it is ready. Given that Bungie like to take their sweet time, don't be surprised if we're talking about it before next year's E3. Hopefully, more will be revealed in the very near future.

It's quite interesting really. Normally this would be pretty big news, yet because of Nintendo's brilliant marketing of its new name that has everyone talking, this announcement is barely significant.

I'm telling you - the Wii is Nintendi's best decision is years. Nearly every single person is talking about it, even if negatively. So many more people are interested, and come E3 Nintendo will so them that the console is nothing to laugh at.

I'm pretty sure 99% of people assumed Halo 3 would be shown in some form this E3....

I'm sure glad that this opportunity to pimp Nintendo Wii wasn't missed. I thought for a second that I'd have to make do with relevant thoughts on Halo 3, which would be a waste of all of our time

At this stage since it is not official that may also be at least part of the reason for this not being major news.

As for the Wii name it seems to have gotten people talking and paying attention. Will it be this attention that makes people buy it or simply think it is silly.

What are you kidding me? I can't escape the Wii crap even in a Halo 3 thread!! uGh! Regardless...Halo 3 will blow away the Wii when it comes out. We'll probably get another HUGE launch like Halo 2!! I hope so...and this time I hope the Single Player has been concentrated on as much as the Multiplayer. Single Player was what got halo going....they should make sure they create another science fiction epic. Halo is like the Aliens of video games imo.

I'm getting quite sick of people dissing "Wii" on the Internet, everyone's had the weekend to think/talk about it, you'd think they'd have gotten over it all by now. Why argue about something you don't even like? It's getting boring trying to defend against morons.

I can't wait to see exactly *what* they put into the Halo 3 "clip". I've been waiting for something to take over from Halo 2. I'm not into racing games, and Halo 2 was/still is the only game i will still pick up and play online with friends. If Halo 3 isn't (because it most likely wont) out until 2007, what is there currently that replaces Halo 2? Halo 2 was my last actual Xbox purchace since i got my 360 in March. How does GRAW play online? i've been thinking about that, what else is there in the meantime?

I hope they don't have anything on Halo 3. But judging on the Bungie Weekly updates, something is going to be released during E3.

As for it blowing Wii out of the water... I doubt it. Obs is right even if he is a troll

Urgh.

Halo 2 sold about 6 million copies (maybe seven by now). Grand Theft Auto: Vice City sold 14 million copies. And Super Mario Bros sold about 45 million copies.

Halo is not that big a game. Advertising and fanboy hype makes it seem much bigger then it actually is. The Grand Theft Auto games on PS2 were easily the biggest franchise of the generation, and between them have sold more then three times Halo 1 and 2 (combined). Hell, even Smash Bros and Double Dash sold about as many copies as Halo.

The 'biggest event in entertainment history' crap that Microsoft came up with was the most 'creative' accounting I've ever seen. They counted all pre-sale moneies collected over several months as 'money spent on the day of release'. That's just lying.

while i haven't seen all the details, counting presale deposits in the release day sales figures doesn't seem like a bad thing to me. cinema tickets are done the same way with pre-sale tickets.

The video is probably going to show something like Master Chief running around shooting stuff, then stepping on top of a dead covenant elite, dual wielding smgs, and the camera is looking from his feet up and it shows 100's of ships flying overhead. Then some elites come out and try kill him and then he talks to that woman in his head and says something supposedly cool like "bring em on" or "Reckon I can stick it?".

I say more MGS 4 at E3. Elderly ass kickery to the max!

^ Not to mention there have been 7 GTAs this generation (each game on a platform is counted seperately because GTA is tri-platform compared to Halo's mono-platform).

I'm talking about on the actual day of release and because it was a simultaneous worldwide release along with all the pre-orders being counted then it was.....the highest grossing release in entertainment history.

I thought that Bungie weren't the primary developers of the third series of Halo and that it was palmed of to ravensoft or obsidian(?) under the watch of Bungie.

I didn't like the sound of that when I saw that.
Can anyone here clear this up for me?

^ Thank god! Even though Bungie might've gotten a little commercialized after Halo 2....the multiplayer aspect of that game is still the best multiplayer experience i've had to date and halo 1 is easily the best FPS experience i've ever had....so i'm hoping Halo 3 will be another benchmark and I really only trust Bungie to do that. Man I can't wait! I hope there are no intertwining stories....just Master Chief on a rampage! Maybe some bosses in this latest one. Like some huge beast that takes like a million bullets! Just an endurance battle of strafing and shooting with **** crumbling all around and explosions rocking the house....sorry got a bit carried away...

I doubt your first wish will be granted, most of the hardcore Halo fans will want the story abput certain characters finished. As for boss fights I seriously hope not. The boss fight in the Halo 2 was ok as it kinda made sense but others (PDZ comes to mind) it's just stupid.
