Halo 3 to miss 2006

360 Rumour | Will PS3 come out before it?

At the moment this is only rumour, but it seems that the third instalment in the Halo series will not make it to our consoles before the end of this year. Despite near to nothing being known about it, the inevitable Halo 3 has been touted as the ultimate Xbox 360 'killer app'.

A published scan of a company email that was (apparently) sent out by US retailer GameStop has surfaced over the net, claiming "Microsoft has stated that Halo 3 WILL NOT be released in 2006."

A Microsoft spokesperson played the question with a straight bat: "We have not made any announcements in regards to Bungie Studios' next project. When we have more information to release on the Halo franchise, we will share it."

While very little known about the game, we at least know that Halo 3 is in development. Last year Bill Gates himself hinted that it would be released just in time to take on the PS3 launch, in the hope of stunting Sony in the process. However, Gates has taken it back, stating this month: "It's up to the team when they want to ship Halo 3, and they're going to take their time to make that a super great product. So even we don't know when that will come out."

If it's not out in 06, my money is on a Movie/Game simultaneous release in 07.

I thought this has been hinted/rumoured at for over a year now, discounting fansites which occasionally pop-up saying its ready and will be released on x day for a surprise.

2007: H3 vs. I-8, MOH:A, KZ3....

They can't release it as a surprise; at least 50% of the Xbox install base would die from shock. At the moment I'd rather the Halo 2 novel over Halo 3. The books explained all the discrepencies in the plot of Halo:CE.
