New Perfect Dark Zero images revealed

360 News | Just possibly the best batch yet.
Six gleaming new screenshots of the Xbox 360-bound Perfect Dark Zero were revealed today, a week before the game is set to go on sale in North America. Predictably enough, things are looking shiny and lovely, with Blade Runner-esque environments, impossibly red hair and a clean-looking HUD all making an appearance. Jolly good.

Check out the new images in the Media Panel to the right, and don't forget our definitive review will be just a fortnight or so away. Strange to think it's almost here.

They look brilliant. This has definately upped my enthusiasm for the game and the 360 in general.

I can' stop looking at them >.<

Nice pics, although her flaming red hair is a worthy substitute for a painted target symbol.

they look great.

Those screens look rather grainy, with lots of jpeg compression noticeable...

I'm not sold on the character design, but everything else looks to be turning out right.

Next gen? lol i dont think so.

Seeings the 360 shipps in just over a week (mine will be coming in just over 2 weeks), it isn't much or a suprise that it'll be on a next generation console.

An answer to your question, even if it was rhortical. Next generation screens will never look as good as they really are, bandwidth/load times must be considered when putting thing online icon_wink.gif

Nice to see that she doesn't wear outfits like they do in Alias icon_biggrin.gif

IMO it still looks like rubbish to me. Compare it to GoW and it looks rather bland.

Erm, lots of sites put up hi-res screens that reflect what the game does/will look like. I recognise that doing this may not be affordable for PALGN and I don't hold it against them, but I was just saying these are compressed shots and don't do the game justice.

It's not a cost thing for us, it's simply to limit the download size for readers so they don't have to wait ages for pages to load. However, I too noticed the difference quite signifcantly on this one. The current jpeg quality is 75 which is probably a little low. I'm thinking of increasing it to 80 or 85.

Even if they were bumped up to high res i still dont think any others ive seen look that next gen like mgs4 or something, unless its supposed to have they play dohy look to it.

If screens are released to show the quality of new games, then let them do that. If people can't wait to see that, then that is their problem to deal with. I can understand resizing them (so they aren't whatever it is x 720) but the quality should be maximum IMO.

Spanca, I'm fairly confident nikack's comment was directed at Thor and not (the both of) you.

On another note, I personally find it quite funny that the "next-gen-ness" of a game was just determined entirely by its graphics. icon_razz.gif

The graphics are actually very good. I personally find it quite funny that the "next-gen-ness" of a game was just determined entirely by the jpeg compression of a screenshot.

Yeah, you put it better that way icon_razz.gif

(BTW, what'd you think of Suzumebachi? icon_wink.gif)

As far as I could see, I was the only one to raise jpeg compression, and at no stage have I questioned the "next-gen-ness" of the game icon_confused.gif

My point was that these shots look rubbish and don't do the game justice. I've seen better shots that make the game look a lot better, and thus people saying the game doesn't look next-gen shouldn't judge it with these screenshots.

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to address this too. How is that at all "funny"? You can't possibly argue that the biggest difference between generations (historically and with this current shift) has been graphics, and also sound. Without being able to judge sound accurately, we go by the single biggest difference in generations and that is graphics. Screenshots are a fairly reliable method of judging this. Granted, some games will look better in motion than in stills, but screenshots are generally a good indicator of the game's graphical prowess.

So for people to judge a game and how it is shaping up to fit into the "next generation" of video gaming upon the criterion of graphics is perfectly valid. These screenshots suggest those graphics aren't up to par with what one would expect from a significant change in hardware, and are justified in being disappointed if these screenshots were the only ones they'd seen. I realise this may sound contradictory to what I wrote above, but my point is that if these were the only shots, then I could understand disappointment. However, having seen higher resolution screens, I have no worries about the graphics in this game.

(NB: this rant was not directed at PALGN for hosting these screens)

That's my exact point. I agree with you one-hundred percent. What I'm guessing is that those who are quite obvously basing the screenshots for the next gen-ness (this could get messy) are doing so unter the pretense that these compressed screenshots are representative of the actual game.

To be honest, I also agree that graphics (for the PS3 and X360 anyway) are the only major step up from the last gen. If the games looked the same, the whole point of developing a new console is made somewhat moot (again, for the Revolution this may/may not be the case). That said, I maintain that the graphics and level of presentation in this game surpasses any other in the current generation.

Hyperworm: Suzumebachi was cool, but it got pwned by Shunkou. Sif she would stand for that ****. icon_razz.gif

Edit: Forgot about GTPod. Hurry up, dammit! icon_razz.gif

At a glance, that does seem to be true, but even discounting Revolution, there are other areas processing power can go besides graphics that should determine if a game is next-gen or not... AI, for example, and physics. icon_kero.gif
Well, never mind, you two're probably right. icon_lol.gif

Cer: hehe icon_lol.gif
(I edited it to 'she'. Don't want to give too many hints just yet, GTPod's still way behind *pokes him* icon_razz.gif)

^ Of course the game engine and other aspects can be improved between generations, but there's absolutely no way that we can judge that now, so all we have is graphics.

Well the launch titles never gauge the true power of a system.
This is fundamental in it suceeding, if it can be pushed no-further then its life expectancy is reduced. HALO for the xbox showed good graphics but HALO 2 showed that the system could perform better, this will no doubt be the same on the xbox 360.
And I personally beleive that if HALO2 was in the launch lineup- the XBOX would be screwed.
