Holly Valance in Dead or Alive movie

360 News | The entire cast for the Dead or Alive movie unveiled.
PALGN has managed to obtain an entire cast list for the upcoming Dead or Alive movie. Shooting has begun in Hong Kong and the cast list is looking, um, less than stellar. However, Australian's have some reason to cheer as Holly Valance has been cast as Christie Allen. Super stuff (...if you say so - Ed).

The entire cast list is as follows:
  • Devon Aoki (2 Fast 2 Furious) - Kasumi
  • Derek Boyer (World’s Strongest Man) - Bayman
  • Sarah Carter (Final Destination 2, K-9: P.I.) - Helena Douglas
  • Steve Howey (Supercross) - Weatherby
  • Kane Kosugi (Shogun Warrior) - Ryu Hayabusa
  • Natassia Malthe (Elektra) - Ayane
  • Matthew Marsden (Black Hawk Down, Coronation Street) - Maximillian Marsh
  • Kevin Nash (Professional Wrestler)- Bass
  • Jaime Pressly (Ringmaster)- Tina Armstrong
  • Eric Roberts (Dr. Who) - TBA
  • Silvio Simac (The Purifiers) - Leon
  • Holly Valance (Neighbours, musician, TV ads) - Christie Allen
  • Brian J. White (Brick) – Zack

Dead or Alive the movie is set for release in 2006, though we're going out on a limb and backing it to slip past cinemas and straight onto DVD (or hey, maybe even UMD).

I dunno of Devon Aoki is the best choice for Kasumi. Perhaps it's because having watched Sin City all I can associate with her is the dismemberment of limbs. :\

Rest of the cast is pretty interesting too. (lol @ Kevin Nash)

I said 2 years ago Devon Aoki should be Ayane in a DoA film, and I still stick by it. I'm glad she's not though as Ayane is my favourite and the woman they've got casted as Ayane (Natassia Malthe) is hot icon_loved.gif

What was wrong was Mortal Kombat? I thought it was the only worthwhile game-to-movie series. At least the movies stayed true to the franchise not like Resident Evil for example.

RE was a load of bs. I enjoyed the Mortal Kombat movies as a kid - these days it may not seem that great due to the effects, but considering back in the days it was based of such simply constructed games..

I liked the Street fighter movie. Well I saw it when I was like 9, so maybe I had lower standards then...
^ Thats right. Brainless action movies - most people love them. Another good example that I enjoyed was Aliens Vs Predator like what the hell was the story in that?

the first MK film was passably good... but up there in terms of good VG based games...

right now i can't think of a VG game that i thought was better than MK...

it needed some better actors... the second was trite

and the live action TV series was ok

Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter are two of the most embarassing, unforgivably dreadful films I've ever clapped eyes on. I was 11 when I originally saw them (so my standards weren't that exacting back then) and I still knew they were tripe.

Mortal Kombat was ok - at least they got the tone and characters right. and I don't even really like the game (fighting games for simpletons are not my thing)! Never saw it, but apparently the sequel was a fresh, steaming turd.

Street Fighter was the worst VG movie ever. Kylie bloody minogue? Blanka is Charlie Nash? (Carlos!!!! I kill you now!!!!!) Guile has left the air force and joined the army? And why didn't somebody mention to the moron producers that Ryu is the hero of the game?

(I suppose Street Fighter was a good movie of the game of the movie though - ie the "Street Fighter: the movie" game. the movie perfectly captured the crappyness of the game and vice versa)

The Street Fighter animated movie was ok - unless you got the edited version (wink wink!)!

Oops - sorry, I forgot Super Mario Bros, also dross that missed the point in the same way. Why not do a super budget cartoon?

Tomb Raider 1 and 2 were ok movies, not really based on the games, but the games were cack by then anyway, so I can understand that.

Resident Evil was a pretty good hi tech zombie movie, and actually fit into the RE storyline very well until RE zero re-wrote some of the same timeframe. Apocalypse also (very) semi fits into the RE story, but the movie was far dumber. Shame, RE1 was a good start.

There were a few others - Double Dragon, House of the Dead, all low budget and pretty terrible. Dead or alive will fit in this catergory, I reckon.

The best VG moves? Pokemon! I'm not a poke-freak by any stretch of the imagination (I got Red and nothing since), but they are truly the best use of a VG-film tie in. Sure, they're a spin off of a spin off (Game to TV to film), but they fit the catergory - pokemon was a game first. they expand the universe and don't contradict or re-write much (as far as I know), and are decent films.

so are you saying the unedited animated SF film was better or worse than the edited version?

i'd remembered all the films/games you mention, with the exception of Pokemon... i've never seen a Pokemon film, but then i never liked the games so i wouldn't know how it fits with everything anyway...

i'm not going to start the MK vs SF debate again, i know you dislike MK and you know i can't stand SF (the noobs fighter icon_razz.gif)... i've seen both films though and MK is infinitely better than SF, although there are some pretty glaring storyline changes between the two in a similar manner to the SF Movie and Game stories... though less of them... actually the only real error in story was having Scorpion and Sub-Zero being allies... in the first game, they are mortal enemies...

and yes, i wouldn't even wish the sequel to grace the toilet bowl of my worst enemy, so bad it was... and apparently there is/was a third film in the works... but it seems to have disappeared... afaik it hasn't even been released straight to video... although it might've been canned during production...

i didn't really like the RE films either... though they were better than the games...

same with the Tomb Raiders... although in this case i think the games might have been marginally better than the sequel... my god that was a turd...

the less said about Super Mario Brothers the better...

Double Dragon was a shocker... as was Alone in the Dark... i haven't seen house of the dead...

and does Alien Vs. Predator count? a movie based on the idea of a game based on 2 movie franchise... and all have nothing to do with eachother beyond the villains...

same with Final Fantasy... based on a franchise which doesn't have a coherent story and doesn't continue from one to the other... guess this film fits the bill then...

the upcoming Doom movie has potential... at least it seems to have the budget... though aspects of the story are pretty flexible from the game's story...

then there is the FarCry based movie, and rumours of a HalfLife movie (or has this been confirmed/debunked now?) which could all be interesting... pity they are all based on the Doom story... (which is in turn based on The Island of Doctor Moreau, for the most part) unless the HL film is HL1 and 2 combined... (no pun intended)

and apparently there was a Tekken film... (actually it's only been announced... it's supposed to come out next year...)

i don't know where DOA will fit... from the cast, it doesn't exactly seem low budget, but its not exactly high budget either... i don't really like the games, so i'll probably pass on the movie...

The sad thing is, I find this quite appealing icon_wink.gif

Yeah, I just added my little Jab at Mortal Kombat. the movie was certainly better then the SF movie.

The SF animated movie was ok, and the unedited version had chunli topless in one scene. Also, the dubbing was pretty old school on (read:bad) in the US version.

SF is for noobs? If anything it's the anti-noobs game now, just too tech for casuals (kinda like Virtua Fighter 4 is for 3D fighters).

It's like it's 1994 having a SF vs MK argument! Reminds me of my Sega and MK loving friend trying to tell me that MK1 was better on MD (It wasn't, no ammount of blood could make up for those crappy graphics) and that the Mega CD would kill off Nintendo (It really killed off sega!)......

Funny, Sega's most successful console (MD) was the one I liked least. I liked the Master System, and became a sega fan for the Saturn and DC, but didn't like the MD back then - still don't really.
no way was MK better on MD... it didn't have enough buttons on the control-pad for one thing...

yeah i've seen the unedited SF anime, i just wondered which you thought was better... the topless scene was pretty gratuitous and pointless from memory...

the only real thing i don't like about the street fighter series is the art design... i've just never liked the look of the characters and levels... or the game as a whole really (just in terms of appearance, not gameplay)...

but then i liked Killer-Instinct, which was simply SF in shiny clothes...

i agree that MK was very over-simplistic, and remained that way until it went 3D, but i've just preferred the look of the game so much more... with or without blood/gore...

KI was more like MK then SF.
whatever...

*Heavy/Medium/Light attacks (SF)
*differently bulked characters (ie: some hit hard, move slow, take less damage, others hit weak, move fast, take more damage) (SF)
*back to block (SF)
*projectile cancelling (SF)

*Blood and Enders (MK)

the only real similarities i see between MK and KI are the cosmetic ones (MK didn't have Combos until after KI)
-digitised characters instead of hand drawn (MK)
-similar move style (MK)
-similar character style (orchid....blugh!)
-western developer

I suppose it's somewhere in between though. Maybe I put them together because I consider them both to be inferiour fighters.

I wrote a long post here about SF and MK before, and deleted it because I couldn't be bothered arguing something that doesn't make a difference. So I'll leave this one here.
^ i had thought of those similarities too, but they are really cosmetic, so i didn't mention them... and it's funny because i consider the characters to be closer to SF character than to MK (well, the human ones... the fire, ice, wolf, raptor and robot ones are just random... don't fit with either franchise, except Riptor and Reptile later on i suppose)

i'm not sure how you mean "similar move style", if you mean input manner, i disagree, i guess i haven't played SF3 much, but from what i remember of the multitude of SF2 versions, the button combos to perform the moves were much more in tune with SF2 than MK... if you mean the effect of the moves, i'm not really sure... some are like MK but the projectile moves are much more like SF... using heavy attack to make a stronger, slower attack for example...

i agree it is more a combination of the two, but IMO it's closer to SF than to MK in terms of gameplay...

and you're right, it doesn't really make a difference... and if 10 years of playing the games hasn't made me prefer SF over MK, i doubt an argument with you will do it either... you make some good arguments on other topics, but i simply don't like SF (probably just the same way i won't convince you about MK)
