Significant Xbox 360 News

360 News | Anybody want a release date for the Xbox 360?
Today was a big day for the gaming industry. Last night MTV and Microsoft held a premier event for the upcoming Special Xbox 360 unveiling on May 12. The event was held in Los Angeles at the classy Club Avalon. Many celebrities attended the event including Elijah Wood, Tony Hawk, Ashlee Simpson, The Killers and many more.

The first thing to announce is the Xbox 360 logo. It was shown for the first time at last nights event. The green orb has now made way for a metalic looking sphere which contains the X. The font has also changed for the wording 'Xbox'.

But this is only small news compared to the following. MTV has accidentally revealed the launch month of the Xbox 360!

MTV.com has updated its TV timetable with the Xbox 360 unveiling. The description reads
This special highlights the exciting new generation of XBOX. Packages include Tours of the design labs Interviews with the designers Behind-the-scenes and inside scoop Never-before-seen footage of new videogames. Trailers of the newest games that are due out in November for the new XBOX. The next generation will be revealed at an event at the Avalon club in LA, hosted by Elijah Wood and featuring performances by The Killers and Snow Patrol.

This follows Bill Gates' announcement at the Society of American Business Editors and Writers annual meeting that the cоnsоle will indeed ship later this year, so there you go my friends - looks like the next generation Xbox is due for release this year in November.

But wait, there's more! Popular online blog, Kotaku, has reported that they have received the first leak from one of their sources who attended the Xbox 360 MTV taping last night in Los Angeles. The source revealed he got to play Perfect Dark Zero which was referred to as a “prettier version of TimeSplitters”, Unreal, Quake, and Brothers in Arms. He goes on to say all of the games amazed the crowd with their graphics.

Also the news about the Xbox 360 controller has been confirmed true by Kotaku. So you have now seen what you will be using to navigate the next gen console.

An exciting day indeed.

PD:Zero - "prettier version of Timesplitters"?? icon_lol.gif What's Rare doing?
Other games mentioned there sound promising.

On another note, I don't like the logo too much.

Is it just me, or does the new font of the look like the apple font, just all in caps?

In fact, the whole product looks like an apple product (the colours, the lines etc).

Oh well, stealing windows from them worked well for Bill, so I suppose that's just what they do.

Overlaid with transparency on the text at the bottom and reduplicated above the text for greater clarity:

The proportions of the letters are relatively similar, but clearly it's a much thinner font, as well as the fact that the middle stroke of the B extends to the left. It's not that much of a copy, and you can't really say much from four letters either (two of which are the same).
But yeah, clearly the Apple style is the hot style at the minute, you can definitely see where they took their influence from icon_kero.gif

Civ: I thought the same thing when I read that about PD0 icon_lol.gif

The games sound promising, that's for sure. But I'm still a little worried about their release date. November? Could be a tad to early or then again, could be the right decision.

I prefer their new logo though.

November is fine by me. The last thing any gamer needs is having all 3 consoles release in 2006, I know my wallet is happy about this at least icon_razz.gif

Yeah, it does look alot like a apple product! I spose MS wants a 'cleaner' futuristic look to there products.

And the font is very similar to. Maybe Apple will put out a console some time - the Ibox or something lol

They have shown the GUI and hardware so theres nothing much really to show besides the games. They really have jumped the gun this time.

Ahh my friend, you are only about 10 years late! Behold one of most poorly made video game system!

The Apple™ Pippin!!

Quote
Based on a scaled-down version of the Macintosh operating system, Pippin would make possible gadgets to let the TV-viewing masses play Mac games and surf the Net from their couches. Even when Spindler was trying to calm the jitters of analysts who were spooked by Apple's sudden losses, he plugged the concept. ``He talked about it like it would be the savior of the company,'' says CS First Boston Corp. analyst J. William Gurley.
