Xbox Live Update - 21/09/2011

360 News | The calm after the storm.
Yesterday was pretty special, wasn't it? After so many years, Gears of War 3 brought an end to the most iconic franchise on Xbox 360. You'd be a fool to be playing, or doing anything else right now. So you might be wondering, why is this update being written? Because we're super cool people and want to get this over and done with as quickly as possible, we're not quite finished with the Locust yet.

Deals of the Week:

As usual, Major Nelson is the man with all of the information. To his credit, he's about to make this week get even better with some genuinely essential gaming material. Portal is actually available for free via Steam, but if that's not your cup of tea then you can grab it for half price. More puzzle goodness can be found inside the beautiful world of ilomilo, here's our review in case you missed it.

  • Gyromancer - 600 MSP (AU$10), a saving of 50%
  • Portal: Still Alive - 600 MSP (AU$10), a saving of 50%
  • Bejeweled Blitz LIVE - 200 MSP (AU$3.25), a saving of 50%
  • ilomilo- 400 MSP (AU$6.50), a saving of 50%

Please remember that all Deal of the Week specials are exclusive to Xbox Live Gold subscription holders.

New Releases:

Criterion's favourite racer makes its long awaited return this week in the form of Burnout: Crash for a tidy sum of 800 MSP (AU$13). It's not what the fans wanted to see... actually, it's not what anyone wanted to see. Scrapping the glorious carnage of Paradise City for a stripped back, casual points based game isn't an ideal situation. But maybe it's better than nothing, maybe.

Alternatively, you can pick up a game called Rotastic, also for 800 MSP (AU$13). It's another one of those stylish, potentially very addictive, two dimensional platform/puzzler types of things. Either download the trial to see for yourself or join the cool club and play nothing but Gears of War 3 all week, the choice is yours.

*raises hand*

Awesome game, starting to get frustrating, it seems as though you hardly make any progress compared to Ikaruga. Only rewarding if you're willing to put in the time. 12 hours of game time has gotten me halfway through stage 2 on 1 credit. It's brutally awesome though.
