Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition announced

360 News | Well, kinda.
We reported the BBC listing of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, but now we finally have a proper announcement. Well, we did, until Capcom's capcops yanked it from the web.

Originating over on NeoGAF, an official trailer set up to reveal SSFIV: AE seemed to leak a little earlier than planned, likely from Capcom's Captivate media event. Though the video has been pulled from most YouTube channels, PALGN can verify it's authenticity, having gotten the chance to watch it before it disappeared. Those eager to get a glimpse of the trailer will have to do some digging (though are sure to find it), but in the meantime we now have some concrete details on what to expect.

As reported originally, Arcade Edition is exactly as the name implies; a port of the third release of Street Fighter IV, which is currently exclusive to Japanese arcades. According to the trailer, the release will include the characters Evil Ryu, Oni, Yun and Yan, as well as support for extra DLC costumes, possibly for these new characters. Along with these Arcade Edition characters players will get all the balance tweaks for existing characters too found in the arcade release, and though we're still waiting on official verification, the trailer seemed to imply that players will have the option of playing with the standard SSFIV balance settings should they not enjoy the AE changes.

Finally, AE will bring forward an enhanced version of the replay channel, offering an 'elite' channel displaying only matches by players with over 3000pp. Spectators will also be able to 'follow' their favourite players from elite matches, with the system alerting spectators whenever a newly recorded match is available for viewing.

Last but least, and in a surprising twist from Capcom, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition has not had a confirmed disk release, and at this point is verified to at the very least act as a purchasable DLC upgrade to owners of Super Street Figher IV. That's right, there wont be any need to go out and buy a whole new game.

As stated, Capcom are yanking all copies of this trailer from YouTube and other social media networks, though if you do enough digging you're sure to find it. In the meantime, all we have to do is wait for the official dating and price.

So its free!

Cool. Coz no new characters I'm interested in.

Enhanced replay channel looks cool though.

Character tweaks, hopefully no more unpunishable cannon spike spamming.

Rumour is June 11 @ $15 US.

Some folks definitely not going to pay.

So how will it work? A person without the DLC update and one with. How will they against each other?

Uhh!

So it gotta be free as it makes more sense?

That doesn't make any sense.
It will work the same way every other DLC for Street Fighter has worked.

Big patch at the start to download all the content to everyones games, pay more to unlock other features (New characters etc)

You just won't play against players who have purchased the DLC. It's like COD, you don't/can't join games where ppl have bought the extra map packs.

Lol mate, if you think it's free, then you clearly do not know Capcom.

Nooooo, I think it will be a massive update for all users but just restricting the game online filters based on what DLC you unlock. So you might be able to search for Arcade/Console with the unlock but without, just Console.

Similar I think it will be a system setting for Arcade/Console across the entire single player portion as well. If you don't have the Arcade DLC unlocked then it will probably just look the same as it does now.

I think it will be a single cost to unlock all it personally. My tip is 1600 M$ points or $27ish on PSN.

I'll much rather Capcom release this as DLC rather than a standard retail. I don't what to buy yet another copy of the game.

My guess is that it will be DLC first, then they will release a disc version sometime in the future, perhaps as a greatest hits or something of the sort.

+1 to ZeroX03. I reckon they will too eventually.

The key is not to split the community.

Thats all I am worried about. Don't buy a new COD and the previous one still has millions of gamers.

Not the same for fighting games with a much smaller fanbase. And lag being an issue means even smaller due to having to play folks in the same country.

Having bought two SFIV this gen and having to folks out for another feels like a rip off to me. Not keen on buying. SSFIV is still strong online. Doesn't need another addition.

Everybody should be happy. Capcom have been suppoting the hell out of this game for 3 years now.
