Fallout: New Vegas gets Xbox 360 exclusive DLC

360 News | This generation's greatest trend.
Right on the fringe of it's release, it would appear that downloadable content support for Fallout: New Vegas will not be supported across multiple platforms. At least, not all of it.

Reported by VG247, Bethesda has announced that the first piece of downloadable content for Fallout: New Vegas will be released exclusively for the Xbox 360, despite the fact the game will also be available on PC and PlayStation 3.

No specifics were given as to what kind of content would be included in the DLC, only that we would learn more in the coming weeks. It is also unknown if this exclusivity will be permanent, or if the DLC will eventually make its way to other platforms in later months.

Other DLC packs outside of this first release will be available on all platforms.

I hope this DLC isn't significant and is something lame like a new costume or whatever. All the exclusive stuff for Fallout 3 was annoying, even if it was just timed exclusives.

I'm glad I preordered this game early, if I only put it down in the past couple of months I would have grabbed it from Steam for $50.

Now bring on Thursday!

Every time I see a DLC announcement before a game gets released, I swear a bit of me gets more annoyed with the current gaming generation trends.

I wish it wasn't so mainstream.

there goes my interest in buying it new.

Really Bethesda? You're going to put us through this exclusive crap again?

At least it's just one thing this time I guess

Fingers crossed it's a Kinect powered side quest where you infiltrate a Vegas strip club as a pole dancer

You've really gotta wonder how much microsoft gave them in order for Bethesda to piss off 2/3 of their customer base.

It's funny that they're only announcing this now, you know... after it has already been released in the USA.

Not to mention those of us with Steam can't play it until the precious retail stores start selling it.

That statement is so so true plus if you take out the exclusive part its also very very true icon_biggrin.gif.

But when is it ever DLC exclusive? Wait 6 months and you'll get it all cheaper on the other platforms.

or packaged together on a disc in the bargin table at EB for 20 bucks.

I still think DLC is awesome.

If you make multi platform titles, you should release the same thing for everybody, or you can **** off in my opinion.

Bethesda have been doing this ever since Oblivion came out.

It's hard to support a publisher/developer when they can't even be bothered supporting you.

Haha! It would appear that the one thing Gamers hate more than DLC announcements before game release, is being told that they can't have said DLC.

$10 says that if this same piece of DLC (whatever it is) was announced at the same time but across all platforms, the majority of comments would be equally as scathing - just along the lines of "I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY'RE ANNOUNCING DLC BEFORE THE GAME IS OUT! **** YOU BETHESDA SHIP THE WHOLE GAME!"

Funny really - this generation seems to have had the least amount of console exclusive titles overall, while having so damned much title content that is platform exclusive. Utterly maddening.

Apart from the Wii in this generation, the PS3 and 360 are remarkably similar, much more than what the SNES and MegaDrive were. Perhaps this is part of the reason.

They're not that similar though - i'm putting it squarely with gaming having become an absolutely mainstream activity, and publishers trying to maximise profits.

My comment was more about having little exclusives because the consoles are similar. As you pointed out, the exclusiveness of DLC is just to maximise profits (as I'm sure the 360 version of Fallout Vegas will sell more than the PS3, and thus, larger consumer base).

Ah, righto - I thought you were saying that we're getting more multi-plat games 'cause the hardware was similar. Yeah, agree'd re: DLC / etc.

+1 Man im so sick of this ****... theres nothing worse than "exclusive DLC" for a multiplatform game... its **** stupid.

The PS3 and 360 are similar in terms of what can be pushed out. In this HD era games are more expensive to make, and doing an exclusive is a big risk, so apart from the Wii you can get the same content across the PC and the 2 beefy consoles (except Crysis, but then a lot of PC's can't run it either).

They both have the 3rd party titles because the pay off is not worth potential lost sales, they all have online, they all have all the bells and whistles so exclusive DLC was the last avenue to get any sort of exclusive 3rd party content.

With Move and Kinect you have at least something different on each platform, despite it may not be something good as they so far seem to have a casual focus

Hooray, time to inform my Fallout nut PS3 fanboy. I think that he'll have a cry or something. Nonetheless, I cannot wait for his reaction. So sadistic of me. =P

Anywho, doesn't necessarily affect me due to having each platform anyway. It just certifies which version i'll buy, which is what Microsoft want here, for multiplatform gamers to buy the Xbox 360 version over the PS3 version. It's a very smart business move, but in all reality it's just going to piss off the masses and Bethesda are going to cop a lot of flak for allowing this to happen, which is a shame.

Exclusive DLC is a load of crap honestly, why should one particular fanbase miss out briefly/entirely just because they're playing on a console they like/wanted to play it on.

GOTY edition for $30 in 12 months time.

I also do think that this plays a part, but it has always been the case with consoles (to different extents depending on the rival hardware at the time).
