Xbox Live Update - 27/07/2010

360 News | Get more out of those boring lands.
The Winter Arcade season is well and truly under way; and this week continues the trend of promoting DLC for a major release along with one new addition to the game catalogue. As usual, this not-so-secret information comes via the Major Nelson blog.

Deals of the Week:

The most successful new IP of 2009 received three pieces of downloadable content; some of it good, some of it not so good. Whatever way you want to look at it, Borderlands was an interesting game and a fresh change of pace to the FPS genre. Now's your chance to purchase all of the extra goodies and bring some life into that barren wasteland.

  • Zombie Island of Dr. Ned - 400 MSP (AU$6.50), a saving of 50%
  • Mad Moxxi's Underdome - 400 MSP (AU$6.50), a saving of 50%
  • The Secret Armory of General Knoxx - 400 MSP (AU$6.50), a saving of 50%

New Release:

Last week saw the highly anticipated release of Limbo, a game which everyone should have bought by now. The Winter Arcade's second installment isn't quite the same, it's a completely different type of experience. Hydro Thunder Hurricane will be available tomorrow night for 1200 MSP (AU$20). This is an arcade racer that sees multitudes of powerboats battling through gorgeous locations in an attempt to reach first place. Expect lots of colour and lots of competitive racing action. But please, let us try and avoid the price tag debate again. There's some fantastic content available this week, so that's where the focus should be.

Don't forget that purchasing all of the Winter Arcade games entitles you to a 1200 MSP bonus, that's five games for the price of four. Microsoft can be generous too...

Hmm... The Borderlands DLC price sounds tempting.

I was thinking the same. Not a huge fan of the base game though...but 1200 points for everything is cheaper than buying the disc.

I shall indeed pick up Knox and Zombies, I don't play much co-op so no Moxxi for me.

Regardless of weather Coop is you thing, Mad Moxi is a waste of time and money. Zombie Island is OK but Secret Armory is where its really at.

What Broken Steel was to Fallout 3, Secret Armory is to Borderlands

As for HydroThunder Hurricane, I have heard pretty bad things, as in missing the speed and colourful style that made the origional rock. Last year I heard of a spiritual sequel called H2Overdrove being done by people who did the first.

Looking forward to The Signal big time and of course Castlevania: Harmony of Dispair comes out next week!

What exactly was the problem with Mad Moxxi? I don't think I've heard any positive comments about it.

because to finish the second set of maps it would take around 15 - 20 hours and you cant save it half way through one map......so there is 20 rounds per map on the second run.....dear god pianful
