Kinect Australian pricing announced

360 News | And the new bundle as well.
Hot on the heels of the US and UK annoucements, Microsoft has announced via press release their pricing for the upcoming Kinect sensor, for Xbox 360. Kinect will be available at a Recommended Retail Price of AU$199.00 and will come packaged with the Kinect-enabled game, Kinect Adventures. For those in the dark, Kinect is Micosoft's foray into the casual motion-controller market.

While no launch date has been given, we are also informed that there will be 15 games available at launch and new Xbox 360 adopters will have the following bundle to choose from, which will have a Recommended Retail Price of AU$449.00
  • The all new Xbox 360 4GB console
  • Kinect sensor
  • Kinect Adventures
“Kinect offers tremendous entertainment value for the whole family and those who are new to video games – with nothing in your hands and no buttons to press. If you can do it in life, you can do it with Kinect” said David McLean, Head of Xbox, Microsoft Australia and New Zealand.

“With a record month for Xbox 360 console sales in June, we are excited about our momentum. Given our rich offering this Christmas including Kinect for Xbox 360, Foxtel by Xbox LIVE and a great line up of blockbuster games, I imagine consumers will definitely want to pre-order at their retailer of choice to secure their Kinect under the tree this Christmas. It is going to be an exciting time for all of us.”

A little less than what I expected ($250) which is a good thing but I still wouldn't buy it even if Microsoft paid me for it :P

I'm more likely to get the Move, if they get more games to support it that is.

Article title a little misleading:
"...pricing and date announced"
"While no launch date has been given, ...."

It's due early November for the US. From the quote at the end of the article it sounds like it should be out here before Christmas for sure.

4GB console? Why!?!?

^^

I'd say it wouldn't be a physical 4GB hard drive, just a console with no hard drive that's bundled with a 4GB USB stick, more than enough for the 'casual market' they're trying to tap into.

Apologies sunshine, system bug.
And it has been promised that it will definitely be out by the end of the year.

Kinect Adventures is probably the worse game out of all of them. I'll probably wait until they give a better price/deal with it.

Wow, the same price as an actual Wii.
And an actual Wii's entire lineup isn't shovelware.
I can see this thing failing.

I can see it succeeding. Because people are stupid

^^ Neitzsche is correct.

Wonder if we will see prices around $149 for this at JB for promos? For the price of 2 RRP games, this aint too bad, if it works and has content it will probably sell well.

Ugh I can imagine the ads now on TV. WEEW, look at all the cool people playing KINECT! ARGH.

way too expensive

Obviously not going for the "flood the market so they can sell you services" approach. I heard manufacturing cost was about $US80 for what was essensially a 3 lens camera.

Give it a year and the price should drop and hopefully by then good games to play besides Child of Eden.

I think that's a high price to ask just for Kinect. Also, there's no games that interest me on it. So yeh, not sure if it's going to sell well.

People aren't plain stupid. They just aren't tech savvy.
Plus the type of person this appeals to won't have a 360 in the first place.

People aren't stupid in any sense, it's just that people who aren't gamers like different forms of electronic entertainment to us. Kinect has some of the few games that my wife has been interested in on the 360. I think Kinect being used in games that I would play typically would probably suck and fail to add anything over a traditional controller, but as an alternative entertainment device for non-gamers I think MS is onto a winner.

We can probably all admit that the Wii has only sold as well as it has thanks to Wiisports and Wiifit and if Kinect can offer an improved version of these it will sell well. Think about the appeal to a non-gamer of fitness routines coaching to correct your technique without without having to leave your home or pay a trainer -- I think that would appeal to many a people outside of gaming circles.

People who aren't tech savvy will look at Kinect then look at the Wii. They will see two things that do the same thing. They don't care how they work, just that they both have fitness games and dancing games etc. They then look at the price and see that they can get a Wii for half the price of a 360 with Kinect.

If it works. I still have some serious doubts. I think Sony have them beat there, they were smart enough to go after both hardcore and casual gamers with some big name titles in conjunction with the ones developed solely for the Move.
