Xbox Live Update - 20/07/2010

360 News | Sharpen your blades again.
Do you remember playing through Assassin's Creed II and feeling a little bit betrayed because of how the downloadable content was structured? You know, the giant gaps that were left before the big finale? Luckily, you now have a chance to purchase all of the DLC at a reduced price. We also have a special game to tell you about, but more on that later. As usual, this information comes courtesy of Major Nelson.

Deals of the Week:

Assassin's Creed II is broken up into a number of sequences, two of which were missing, twelve and thirteen. The retail price of the game is due to be dropped in the U.S. this week so these reductions are clearly an incentive to pick up an already great adventure. Without further ado, here are the exact details:

  • Sequence 12: Battle of Forli - 240 MSP (AU$4), a saving of 25%
  • Sequence 13: Bonfire of the Vanities and Secret Locations - 400 MSP (AU$6.50), a saving of 29%
  • Sequence 13: Bonfire of the Vanities - 240 MSP (AU$4), a saving of 25%

If you like to play a bit of dress-up, then you might be happy to hear that two avatar items are also available at a reduced price.

  • Da Vinci's Flying Machine - 160 MSP (AU$3), a saving of 33%
  • Guard Armour - 240 MSP (AU$4), a saving of 40%

Please remember that all Deal of the Week specials are exclusive to Xbox Live Gold subscription holders.

New Release:

Admittedly, the Assassin's Creed franchise isn't for everyone. Those of you who like to see a bit more artistic flair in their video games should be delighted to see the release of Limbo, at a price of 1200 MSP (AU$20). Limbo is a visually striking game that brings you on a journey unlike any other. It would be unfair to give away too many details, but this is definitely something worth keeping your eye on. If you're unsure as to whether or not Limbo is worth the rather hefty price tag, then wait for our review on Thursday before deciding.

That's a wrap for this week folks; Deal of the Week prices should be effective immediately and Limbo will be available to download tomorrow night.

Limbo has an awesome art style and concept but at 1200 points it's a tough buy. If it were 800 I'd probably bite.

I wish to get Limbo.

I wonder how long it will be before Limbo goes on special?

But then, who am I kidding? I'll probably cave later this week and drop the points.

Arg, going to wait for Limbo to go on sale for 800, just like DeathSpank. I've been picking up so many retail game cheap because of the sales it's hard to pay 1200 for an arcade game (especially since I am only half way through Alpha Protocol and Brutal Legend).

Don't forget:
Quote
* Purchase at least 3 Summer of Arcade titles & receive 400 Microsoft points back!
* Buy all 5 Summer of Arcade titles and receive 1200 Microsoft points back!
-You can only receive 400 or 1200, not both.

Personally I plan on getting Limbo, Hydro Thunder, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, and Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light (if the demo impresses me). At which point Monday Night Combat effectively becomes 400 MSP.

limbo looks just amazing. I have read reviews saying it is one of the best games of the year and ever. It just looks different and i feel i should support it, but yer 1200 points just isn't an instant buy like 800 points would be.

On side note if they had altair or ezio avatar item I would almost have bought them since they are the only items im interested in...guard outfit? Really.....

Is Limbo out yet? I just went to the marketplace and there was no option to buy it?! Only options were theme and trailer.

It's up now.

Agree 1200 still too much - new release games should only be 800 points.
Considering the low price of many boxed games now these high priced Arcade titles just don't offer value for money.

1200 or not I bought it and I don't regret it. I've only played half way through it and while most of the puzzles are simple up to this point there has been two or three that held me up for a few minutes.

We need more games like this on XBLA!
