Red Dead Redemption DLC overload announced

360 News | Seems like there is enough room in town for the four of them.
Do you like downloadable content? Did you enjoy Red Dead Redemption? Well, Rockstar has today announced a DLC overload for their latest open world smash hit. Following the release of the Outlaws To The End Co-op Mission Pack a few weeks ago, there have been four further DLC packs announced. Only one has been given a specific release window for the time being.

“We want to continue to provide Red Dead Redemption’s fans with a steady supply of innovative new content,” said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games. “Our goal is to continue to pack as much entertaining gameplay and as many surprises as we can into the massive world of Red Dead Redemption over the coming months.”

The upcoming downloadable content for Red Dead Redemption, for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, includes:

Legends and Killers Pack
New active map locations, characters and more:
  • Release date: beginning of August 2010
  • 9 new multiplayer map locations — more than doubling the amount of territories in the multiplayer competitive modes
  • 8 new multiplayer characters — play as characters from Red Dead Revolver
  • Introducing a new projectile weapon: the Tomahawk, with corresponding challenges for single-player and multiplayer gameplay
  • New achievements and trophies
  • Pricing: AU$15.95 (PlayStation Network), 800 Microsoft Points (Xbox LIVE).

Liars and Cheats Pack
New competitive modes, multiplayer mini-games in Free Roam, and more:
  • Release date: TBC
  • Attack and Defend multiplayer competitive mode and challenges
  • New multiplayer horse races, complete with mounted combat
  • Play as the heroes and villains of Red Dead Redemption, as well as 8 additional multiplayer characters
  • Multiplayer versions of Liars Dice and Poker from the single-player game
  • Introducing a new weapon: the Explosive Rifle, with associated challenges available in single-player and multiplayer gameplay
  • New achievements and trophies
  • Pricing: AU$15.95 (PlayStation Network), 800 Microsoft Points (Xbox LIVE).

Free Roam Pack
Delve deeper into the world of Red Dead Redemption with new modes, challenges and gang hideouts to discover:
  • Release date: TBC
  • Additional Free Roam challenges
  • New action areas and defensive placements
  • Posse scoring and leaderboards
  • New anti-griefing measures in Free Roam
  • Pricing: TBC.

Undead Nightmare Pack
Ghost towns and cemeteries come alive in a West gone horribly wrong:
  • Release date: TBC
  • Brand new single-player adventure, challenges and quests
  • 8 new multiplayer zombie characters
  • Additional animals unleashed in the world
  • New dynamic events and more
  • Pricing: AUD$15.95 (PlayStation Network), 800 Microsoft Points (Xbox LIVE).
Apparently, we’ll be hearing more about these packs closer to their corresponding release dates. A shame though that they won’t be free like the first one. While we’re expecting to see most of these before the end of the year, let us know in the forums whether you think this kind of after game support is welcome, or is there a limit to how much DLC we can take? And if you haven't done so already, ride into town and check out our full review.

this whole zombie thing is just **** stupid now...

Yea, I got RDR because it was a western, zombies just sound stuipid.

RDR's overall tone, to me, seems quite sombre and realistic (I'm yet to finish the campaign however). So zombies seem completely out of place here. Perhaps Rockstar should have saved that mode for GTA5 and set it in Vice City. Then hunting zombies to Michael Jackson's Thriller would make more sense!

I agree. It takes away from the classy theme presented throughout the game. I was hoping there would be some more single player content added in the form of quests and challenges but it looks like that's only restricted to the Undead Nightmare Pack..

That's why it's DLC. If you don't like the idea, don't buy it. DLC should bring something different to the table, rather than just more multiplayer maps etc.

Western Zombies is an untapped market for the zombie appeal...

as long as the don't try to link the zombies to the RDR storyline i don't see a problem with it.

I'm just done with zombies.

It's cool to hate, and zombies seem to be the latest target.

I love those stumbling, dribbling bastards. Bring em on.

it has nothing to do with being cool to hate

i have been a zombie fan for 30 years now, and i never thought i would get sick of them from over saturation, yet here we are...

Well your experiences clearly aren't everyones. I'm also over 30 and I still love zombie lore. Hell, if vampires are still popular, why not zombies? icon_smile.gif

Its just that zombies are the perfect fit for droves of mindless enemies to kill and having fun while doing it.
I don't think there's anything wrong with Zombies per-se (this is actually a lie. I think of all the mythical creatures, they're the worst. A deformed human that moans and groans and moves slowly [generalisation!!!!!]. Bleh. At least Vampires glitter in the sun), but they have to be implemented properly and not just in the game for the sheer sake of it which is what has happened here. As odd as it is saying this, the implementation of Zombies needs to make sense for it to be effective.

Yes i have nearly every zombie film ever made, and i like em plenty good, but its going too far now

Totally beat me to it. Whingeing about this is as bad as people who whine about violent tv shows; if you don't like it, don't effing get it. No one's forcing u to download it, it's for people with open minds who want something a little different. Personally I'd be happy if they put in Nazis riding T-Rexes if it gave me a different way of enjoying a game I had already tapped out.
End rant.

Each to their own.

Like I said, don't buy it if you think it's gone too far. But plenty of people would prefer zombies over another few multiplayer maps and some new clothes, which is the sort of DLC I think has gone too far.

DLC is perfect for bringing in "fun" things that may not fit with the game itself. That's why it's DLC and not in the game.

You have the choice to buy it or not so what is there to complain about?

I'll probably end up buying most of that content, except for the zombies of course, which don't have any place in a game as breathtaking as Red Dead.

I'd like to have seen them follow the same route as GTAIV though, some sort of intersecting storyline would have been nice.

I think the main issue with this and zombies is that Rockstar showed that they could absolutely nail awesome DLC, that's actually worth the price of admission, this seems like a massive about face to what GTA4 offered (the packs in general, not just the zombie stuff).

That said I think if they played on it being a "ghost town" as opposed to zombies, it could be really awesome, like going a silent-hill-esque route. They won't... but it'd be awesome if they did.

I hope you can skin the zombies.

still haven't bought this but it seems like I should wait for the GOTY collection with all these DLCs. I can wait. icon_smile.gif

Since when is anyone whingeing on this thread? All I see are opinions so far about how stale the whole zombie thing is getting. No one is personally attacking Rockstar or anyone else for that matter, so feel free to reholster your attitude at your earliest convenience.

Exactly. If you re-read what people who have no interest in the Undead Map Pack have said, 'different' is the key word they're suggesting. Unless you've been living in a media blackout lately, you would agree that going with a zombie theme isnt exactly original right now.

For a game as excellent as Red Dead Redemption, the sky is the limit with what Rockstar can expand upon and a zombie DLC pack falls a little short as far as creativity is concerned.

Add the Lassoo to the Zombie pack and I'll buy it...!

My only comment on these are that they are overpriced. $16 per pack.. buy all 4 and you've essentially bought the game again. I don't mind paying for DLC but it should be a balanced and reasonable price that reflects what it is compared to other things on the marketplace. Yes I could "just not buy it" but that doesn't address the overpricing problem and that other developers may follow suit. When most of the DLC for other games, that I have seen at least, is priced well below $10AUD.. $16 is a little bit steep.

Will just have to wait for PALGN to review them to see if any (or all) are worth the price of entry.....
