Xbox Live Update - 06/07/2010

360 News | Shiver me timbers!
The last few Xbox Live updates have been scattered to say the least, but now it looks as though we're back to the regular Tuesday update from Major Nelson. Here's what you can look forward to this week.

Deals of the Week:

The following discounts are already effective so the new prices should appear when you sign in. There aren't any blockbuster games here, but Mega Man is always a bonus.

  • Mega Man 10 - 400 MSP (AU$6.50), a saving of 50%
  • Afterburner Climax - 400 MSP (AU$6.50), a saving of 50%
  • Scrap Metal - 800 MSP (AU$13), a saving of 33%
  • Death by Cube - 400 MSP (AU$6.50), a saving of 50%

Yeah...we all took a step back after looking at 'him'.

New Releases:

The highlight of Xbox Live this week comes from LucasArts; Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge will finally be available for the more than justifiable price of 800 MSP (AU$13). Guybrush Threepwood returns for more of the same in what looks to be another mighty fine remake. Fans of the original will rejoice, and newcomers will realise that Tim Schafer was able to make enjoyable games once upon a time.

The second new release is called Blacklight: Tango Down, available for 1200 MSP (AU$20). Even though there doesn't seem to have been a whole lot of coverage on this FPS, it has the potential to be a fresh alternative to Battlefield 1943. The game will support multiplayer for sixteen people across twelve different maps, although unlike DICE's creation, this is gritty futuristic warfare. An in-depth customisation system offering 'thousands of combinations' is pretty much unheard of for an Arcade title. Could Blacklight be a sleeper hit?

This new content should be available tomorrow evening, yarrrr.

Afterburner Climax was a massive dissapointment for me. I loved that game as a kid. I guess I was hoping for something different.

I have heard a bit about Blacklight: Tango Down, their PR guy Marcus Beer is quite a character.

Also what time do these updates hit in Australia? Really want to grab both MI2 and Afterburner at that price. Much prefer to play them tonight than wait until after work tomorrow icon_smile.gif

Afterburner is on special now (I think the weekly specials start here every Tuesday, at least that's when I see them).

There is also some music DLC on special this week for Rock Band, Guitar Hero & Lips.

Yeah, wonder why we can't download it. I logged into live on computer - pressed on the button to start the download on my console - it then says that the offer is not available in my region (or has expired).

Could the netcode be so US/EU centric that they think it might not work down here in Oz/NZ (and subsequently pulled it?)Hmm

Edit - just checked the Major's blog:

Availability: Not available in Asia, Australia or New Zealand

Seems that they're just avoiding release in our part of the world because they didn't take the time to code matchmaking that would work in the Southern Hemisphere. Thanks very much Ignition. Time to send that tw@t (Marcus Beer) some angry tweets...
