E3 2010: Pirates of the Caribbean trailer

360 News | Don't write it off yet.
It's common knowledge that video games based around movies rarely turn out to be anything more than mediocre. However, when developers try to approach these things from a different angle, there tends to be a higher success rate. That's where Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned comes in.

Propaganda Games, creators of the not-so-good Turok title in 2008, are the one's responsible for bringing Jack Sparrow's adventures to the gaming world. The trailer below shows nothing more than CG footage, but there's potential for a semi-decent game here.

ARRRG!!! Not another bloody moral decision game. If someone acctually took this genre and did something decent with it it could be awesome but you always get the same lame decisions, the story always progresses the same way regarless of your evil/rightious deeds and there is usually a bias between the pros/cons of chosing good over evil.

I won't write it off because of the movie tie in, but it better do something more than just copy fable.

Isn't that more reason to write a game off rather than a somewhat tired gameplay mechanic?

Developers need to move away from binary choice, gray areas and branching storylines are far better IMHO. It's worth the extra effort.
