Pre-E3 2010: Rumour: New Xbox 360 model

360 Rumour | Thank you Italy.
Leaks and E3 go together like peas and carrots, and today could see the side of mashed potato. Thanks to an Italian website, we may be getting a glimpse at a brand new Xbox 360 model.

The website features a flash animated advertisement which appears to show a new model for the Microsoft system. Xbox 360 Slim rumours have been abound over the last few months, but so have re-launch rumours, stating that Microsoft would re-launch the system with Natal.

While it's impossible to say which rumour this advertisement supports, or even if it is indeed real, the advertisement seems to state that the new model will feature built in WiFi, a 250GB hard-drive, and compatibility with something called 'Kinect'. Could 'Kinect' be a branding for Natal?

The validity of this rumour will likely remain unknown until Microsoft's press event in the next couple of days.

UPDATE: Two different versions of the flash advertisement can be found here and here, on a server owned by Microsoft. I think its safe to say this rumour is true.

It looks horrific, which means that it could well be true.

Apparently 'Kinect' is a registered trademark with Microsoft or something too. Its probably true.

it doesn' look all that much slimmer and it looks ugly.

WOW! Built in wifi... now it's er... almost as good as a PS3..

One thing I hate about my xbox is that stupid network cable I have to use.. and I refuse to buy a wifi adaptor when it should have been in the machine in the first place, especially when I rebought the elite console..

Well, I think it looks cool. Much better than that horrendous looking thing we've been subjected to since 2006. There's no sense of scale though, and it looks much more legit than any other rumour pic design.

Edit: Shame theres no slot loading though

If they fix the horrid hardware problems the current models have been plagued with I'd buy it very fast as I like the 360, just not it's current reliability standards...
It's not the best looking machine though from the looks of the small picture xD Hopefully it'll look nicer up close...

It looks very similar... just more sharper...

Looks pretty cool and slick. Not sure why they are doing this though unless the price is about to drop? PS3 slim was a no brainier because it was ugly and large as sin and needed to be manufactured cheaper.

I wonder if you need the brick with this model? That would be a welcome change.

So now we have the PS3 slim-pancake and 360 slim-knife.

This better be fake... that thing is fugly.

This has to be fake. It looks like the top has stayed to same to connect the proprietary drives and only the bottom has been changed.

MS would have to make more of a radical shape change to keep the current drives and make it slim as well, otherwise no real benefit.

The flash ads come directly from a Microsoft server. They're not fake.

It probably doesn't make sense to redesign the shell completely. They have spent a generation making the brand and image into a household name.

The re-design would be reserved for the next console you'd think, which seriously can't be anymore then 2-3 years away...

Yeah, but there have been rumours that Microsoft intend to relaunch the system along with Natal. Same system, only a new advertising blitz and marketing edge, essentially making it seem like something new to the market the Natal is targetting.

And by Natal I mean Kinect.

The hard drive is internal, it doesn't need to fit the old external ones as you'd just need a transfer kit and you wouldn't need the old one anymore.

As for scale, look at the DVD drive, they're always the same width

A redesign may reignite consumer interest, however, I think I'm done with the system. All my games have moved to PS3 and PC and I just don't think I can trust MS with my money on another system after the whole RROD affair (and that may possibly have new issues).

REAL.

and

real ugly.

Not crazy about the redesign, but I'd like to see a few new specs first. Guess we'll see for ourselves tonight (though my 360 has so far survived two RRoDs, so whether I actually would get one is dependant on how that goes. Looking pretty good so far!)

I actually think it looks pretty slick.

lose the diagonal kink on the form, lose the shiny black bit.. maybe.

yeh i really like the look of it, im interested in seeing more about it, like actual size etc. and if anything else is different besides the wifi and kinect
2 years ago
its actually not shrunk down if you look at the size of the driveslot vs the one on the current one. Its just resigned so they can relaunch a new line of consoles (with kinect). Its not a 360slim. Its about the same size.

atleast the kinect and wifi is actually in the machine though. so less hanging outside of it.
