Dreamcast games come to XBLA and PSN

360 News | This ain't no dream.
Exciting news for old time SEGA fans; Dreamcast games will be making an epic return in the near future on Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network.

SEGA has confirmed that classic Dreamcast titles will begin being available for purchase later this year, with Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure leading the way. Sonic Adventure will be the first title, hitting the services on Sonic's 11th anniversary.

Dreamcast titles will be enhanced with higher rendering resolutions and surrounds sound, as well as taking opportunity of the trophy and achievement features for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms. To top things off, there will be online leader-boards, allowing gamers to compare skills and achievements across all games.

Both Sonic Adventures and Crazy Taxi will be on show at E3 2010. In the meantime, let us know in the comments section what past Dreamcast titles you'd like to see re-released.

Well, the PS3 and X360 can render up to 1080p, so theoretically that high.

Powerstone 1 and 2, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Grind Radio, Soul Calibur, Carrier, Illbleed, Shenmue 1 and 2, Crazy Taxi 2, Daytona USA 2001, Rez, Ikaruga, Street Fighter III Third Strike, Mortal Kombat Gold, Headhunter, Outtrigger, Chu Chu Rocket, Phantasy Star Online (this would be HEAVEN online), House of The Dead 2, Toy Commander, Metropolis Street Racer, Fighting Vipers 2, Tech Romancer, Sega Rally 2, F355 Challenge, Samba De Amigo, Grandia II, Space Channel 5, Blue Stinger, Trickstyle i could go on for hours. Now there is a list for games for Sega to convert to PSN and XBLA. Still this is AWESOME news for people who never had the chance to experience the Dreamcast's awesome game library

Theoretically, yes. It would have been nice though if Sega provided more details though or an example other than a statement like that. If they were 1080p then that would be especially nice icon_smile.gif

Just look at the screenshots in the article. They're all running in a higher resolution than the Dreamcast did.

About damned time!

More people can experience the joy that Dreamcast gave.

Well, in a 'wow these old games look **** lols' way, more than likely... Still! this is positive!

Although, unless they emulate the VMU and include the micro-games that some titles included, they're doing it wrong. Without the awesomeness of raising a Chao on the VMU, Sonic Adventures just won't be the same.

Skies of Arcadia on PS3? Yes please!

But what are the chances of us getting Skies of Arcadia Legends instead of the original?

And Grandia 2.../drool

Won't get Legends, being a Gamecube title. I doubt they'd put the work in for it anyway, to be honest icon_sad.gif

SoA is a gem though, any RPG fan whom hasn't played it should totally try. A network release would be amazing, but I just don't see it happening. Too much work for a relatively niche title.

Well, Sonic Adventure for one icon_smile.gif

Uhm... my memory fails me... gimme a moment...

There actually aren't that many, by the looks of it - Look up VMU on wiki and it'll give you a list, but the few game links that I followed didn't specify the functionality.

Unless Pepsi Man is one of the titles that goes on the XBLA/PSN service, I really couldn't care less.

Hell Yes. Dreamcast was one of those machines... it has 2 or 3 of the absolute greatest games of all time (or so I've heard) and nothing else. If this means I can finally sink my teeth into Soul Calibur, it will be awesome.

Soul Calibur has been on XBLA for quite a while.

There's two problems with that list. A) Half of those games don't belong to Sega (if only they did). B) Some of those games have already been re-released in other forms on xbox live (Rez, Soul Calibur, Ikaruga), so that rules them out. I do agree though, they all deserve to be up there, but the only ones that seem likely are Sonic titles, Jet Set Radio (which I'm greatly interested in playing again), Sega Rally and Daytona are obvious choices, as is Ferrari F355 and Space Channel.

Back in the day I played Sonic Adventure and Powerstone, both had VMU games. Sonic had the Chao raising game and Powerstone had a side scrolling shoot 'em up game. Sonic's was definitely the better of the two. It would be great to see the games be included with these versions. icon_smile.gif

It'll be hitting XBLA/PSN on the DREAMCASTS 11th anniversary, not Sonics. Sonic has been round for almost 20 years now. Damn kids, show some respect...
