Bungie believes Halo: Reach will upset hardcore fans

360 News | Overly harsh? Or just trying to calm the fanboys down before the disappointment hits?
A recent interview with Edge has had Bungie executives speaking candidly about the next chapter in the Halo saga, with the developer admitting that hardcore fans of the popular gaming franchise may be upset by elements of the title as it focuses on the novel The Fall Of Reach rather than the source material from the previous video games.

Executive Producer Joseph Tung stated that "There might be certain things the hardcore fans will take issue with, but there will be other things that will make them absolutely delighted."

While Creative Director Marcus Lehto was quick to point out that Bungie "are very sensitive to the Halo canon, and we are careful not to be stomping on the Halo timeline. We're playing to the events of the book, and while it's not the gameplay version of the book, that story is taking place in the background. We're following one isolated part of what's happening on Reach."

Halo: Reach will be coming to the Xbox 360 platform sometime in 2010.

I'm pretty sure it'll sell a few million day one anyway.

I think what they mean is they aren't following the book, they are doing their own thing within that narrative.

Then there's certain things that might conflict with the story of the games because that's the way it is in the book. Though they might just mean the gameplay changes.

Maybe they mean how brown everything is in the new game. Looked like resident evil 4 halo

It might mean you have to control the game with Natal

Stuff already conflicts with certain things in the book, like in one of the books the Master Chief goes back to Reach after the first game I think, which obviously doesn't happen. I don't see how it will upset hardcore fans, looks like it's properly set within the "game" universe.
