To be more specific, you’ll be part of a six-person squad known as ‘Noble 6’, made up of mostly ‘Spartan III’ warriors, considered by the UNSC to be expendable. Each squad member will have unique traits, while one is female. Played on the planet Reach, the environment’s darker colour palette and new native cultures are meant to be crucial to the story. Bungie is trying to make the Covenant a scarier foe by portraying them as much more brutal and with them speaking in their own language in “deep and creepy voices”. Apparently, battles will now be fought with up to 40 AI characters and 20 vehicles, as opposed to the 20 AI characters in Halo 3.
Some original Halo features will return, including a non-replenishing health bar as well as the sniper rifle, assault rifle, magnum, plasma pistol, sword, and needler. However, spike and flame grenades have been removed in favour of frag and plasma grenades. New weapons include the designated marksman rifle, which is something of a mix between a sniper and a battle rifle, and the needle rifle, which is a medium range gun that will cause three people to explode if they're hit in succession. Context sensitive melee assassinations will also be possible for the first time. The game will have enhanced armour abilities where you can choose a super-up ability, such as sprint or camouflage, and use them until a rechargeable meter runs out.
While there is not too much known about the coveted multiplayer, Game Informer has confirmed that Halo: Reach will at least have all the multiplayer features that were in Halo 3. Apparently, the armour abilities will play some sort of role as well. Finally, there is one new enemy known as the Skirmisher, which are similar to Jackals and travel in packs.
No release date is available yet, but we expect to see Halo: Reach sometime in 2010. But until then, we’ll bring you all the Halo information that you need as it becomes available to us.
