Ubisoft delays Splinter Cell: Conviction

360 News | Along with two others.
We can hear the collective groans from around the internet, as IGN and numerous other sources have reported that Ubisoft has delayed Splinter Cell Conviction once again. However, unlike the two year hiatus that saw the game disappear off the face of the planet, only to resurface in a new form, this delay appears to only be a minor one. Apparently, the game is scheduled now to ship in April, which coincides with the start of Ubisoft's 2010-11 fiscal year.

This is in conflict with the game's listing on online retailer Topshop, which shows a 28 June 2010 release. While this confirms the delay, it also appears that this is a filler date for games to be released on the April to June quarter.

Splinter Cell Conviction isn't the only Ubisoft title to suffer from a delay. The upcoming strategy title R.U.S.E. has also been delayed till the 2010-11 fiscal year but no concrete release window has been provided. Furthermore, the shaky development cycle of the promising disaster flick game I Am Alive continued, with the title set to miss the 2010-11 fiscal year completely, meaning we're not going to see it before March 2011 and development has been shifted to Ubisoft Shanghai.

"Despite a number of highly successful titles, such as Assassin's Creed II – which is expected to reach 9 million sell-in units by the end of March 2010 – and Just Dance – our great Wii success during the holiday season – Ubisoft has not met its financial targets," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot to IGN, when quizzed about the delays. Given the unusually packed nature of this usually quiet first quarter of 2010, more delays seem to be inevitable.

Do'h! I wonder what the reasoning is with this latest delay?

I don't mind it being delayed. There are WAY too many games in Q1 as it is. It's crazy.

Thats ok, cause i have little to no self control and it would have been competing with heavy rain for my attention. Putting it back in April makes April stealth month.

To me it sounds like this was purely a financial decision (i.e. "this year sucks anyway, so release the game next year so the books look better then") which I think is a bit poor.

If the game is ready, and you committed to a release date, release the damned game! To me it kind of comes across as a bit of a “screw you” to the fans/gamers. Or maybe I’m reading too much into it.

It's not just you, Blenny.

One delay for financial reasons says, "OK, so we don't think this can beat out Title X. I mean, that thing is a monster."

Two delays says, "Crap. This thing couldn't blow over a piece of paper."

I am hoping the delay is for working on the ps3 release. A PS3 version has to come eventually!!
