Assassin's Creed 2 gets three short films

360 News | 'Lineage' coming to a YouTube near you.
Gamers can expect Assassin's Creed 2 on 17 November this year, but in the meantime Ubisoft have announced three short films as a prequel to the highly anticipated title. The first of the three films will make its debut on YouTube on 27 October.

Collectively titled Lineage and running at a total of thirty-eight minutes, the three films are made up of a combination of live acting and computer-generated backgrounds. Like Assassin's Creed 2, Lineage will be set in the cities of Florence and Venice. It looks as if Lineage will be a vehicle to better flesh out the series' new setting and characters rather than dwelling on the modern day component.

Actors featuring in 'Lineage' are also said to have some role in Assassin's Creed 2, lending both voice work and their own digitised faces to the game. Don't be surprised to see the same characters popping up in both game and film.

Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat said, "...With the Assassin’s Creed: Lineage film series, the production value that went into these shorts is exactly the same should we have decided to go with a long feature. And I think that that says it all.”

Be sure to check out YouTube on 27 October for the first instalment of Lineage.

I was going to say that maybe they should be spending their time making the game, but then I remembered those articles that said there were 500 people working on Assassin's Creed 2. I guess they have to put them to use somehow.

Will be interesting to see how these go. Already got the black edition pre-ordered, thus I also assume that these shorts will be on the extrras dvd that's coming with it.

Wonder if these will be similar to the Halo 3/Halo ODST short films in any respect? Certainly sounds similar. Would be lovely to see a bit more WETA work icon_biggrin.gif

^Yeah, the WETA stuff took me through several pairs of underwear. Looking forward to Lineage, the AC storyline is one of my favourite gaming plots.

I quite enjoyed it, though just so you know it's live action, which I wasn't expecting. I also found it rather confusing, but being a part one this seems appropriate.

In summation, if you're into the mythos of the games then you'll likely lap up the short films.
