Halo 3: ODST disk errors

360 News | Bungie are on the case.
Quite a few gamers keen to get their Halo 3: ODST fix have reported that a number of copies are having disc problems. The problem seems to be particularly relevant on older 360s rather than the newer models.

Some gamers are having problems with the disc being unreadable, while others find the game is skipping. This is despite the fact that the discs are brand new and factory fresh. Some gamers have found that downloading the title to their hard-drive solves the problem, but not everyone has this ability.

Players having this issue are asked to send details about their personal experience to Test Ninja Alpha on the Bungie forums, where they'll have to do a few tests to check whether the problem is due to the game disc or the console itself.

Bungie is currently looking into the problem, which is probably a good idea seeing as though around 2 million copies of the game have already been sold.

my copy of halo 3 used to tell me to play the game in a 360 console, as though I put it in a dvd player, had to get it replaced, was kinda weird

do Bungie use some weird compression regime or streaming technology or something, because Halo 3 had a plethora of disc issues too. i remember there were many people who couldn't load the level after the AA Gun (including me).

seems somewhat odd that it's the same company suffering another widespread disc issue, unless it's something they do differently.

supposedly they do some strange optimisation, in the case of halo 3 it runs faster off the disc than it does installed to the harddrive (odst is apparently the exact opposite, optimised to work better than normal on the hd)- i'd suspect it has something to do with how theyre optimising the data.

I thought that they'd test this on all versions of consoles before producing it. :S

Interesting how my launch console is unaffected by this. But then again apart from one incident, I haven't had any problems with my console.

Launch console and only 1 incident!? Count yourself lucky! I got rid of my launch after it red ringed three times in 1 year and ran so hot I could cook dinner off it! Replaced with a Jasper Elite this year and *knocks on wood* its been smooth sailing so far!

Still, this incident is quite strange, you'd think such a high profile title would have been thoroughly tested by Microsoft, but then again, sometimes these problems just come out of no where..

I can't find how many numbers of discs, just 'a' number. Big difference between 1/10 and 1/10000.
