Shadow Complex sets XBLA sales record

360 News | Gamers go gaga for Shadow Complex.
Microsoft has today crowned Chair Entertainment's side-scrolling action title Shadow Complex "the most downloaded single-player title in Xbox Live Arcade history," as this little piece of gaming heaven has sold over two-hundred thousand copies in the week and a half since its 19 August release.

Priced at 1200 Microsoft Points (approximately AUD $18), the downloadable Xbox 360 game has drawn well deserved praise from gamers and critics alike. For those that have yet to experience what Shadow Complex has to offer, it's a title very much in the vein of popular side-scrollers Metroid and Castlevania, with players uncovering new items and upgrades as they explore their way through the large game world.

And with good reason too, this game kicks ass. Anyone thinking it sounds even slightly interesting pick it up for sure, you won't be dissappointed.

Therefore if im not mistaken -

200,000 x $18 = 3.6 million dollars

minus maybe (roughly) 6 people's salaries for 6 months at 100,000 per annum. (only a very random guess).

$300,000

Microsoft's cut of 30%...1.2 million

leaves about $2 million dollars. not including overheads from Epic...

So a few things make me sit up and take notice

1. hmmm... millionaires in under 6 months... amazing? anyone want to start making games with me icon_razz.gif
2. developers are not poor
3. digital distribution is the way to go
4. imagine how much money halo, the sims, WOW make.
5. fanboys with little money giving their hard earned to the game developers at the drop of a hat...oh here's a new expansion pack... here's a little bit of clothing for your character... here's a downloadable car while the developers happily stashes their cash into a vault.

And oh yeah Shadow Complex is an amazing game. I love it icon_biggrin.gif

Without a doubt, a solid game that I would put as a "must buy", even if not immediately. Great gameplay, graphics and just generally fun! Cannot beat the price for the value of this game - not by a long shot!

No surprises that Chair has cashed in! Would be very interested in future DLCs!

Kim, since I don't have an Xbox 360, I won't be going gaga for this.

I really have enjoyed this game; several times already. 'Tis worth picking up. Though after playing this it really gives me hope for a 2.5D Metroid.

Good. This game deserves it. Its about time someone too the castlevania/metroid 2D formula and redone it for next gen.

Listening Konami and Nintendo?
