Xbox 360 Elite gets a price drop

360 News | Pro console discontinued.
After receiving price cuts around the rest of the world earlier this week, Microsoft announced this morning that the price of the Xbox 360 range will be dropped in Australia from 22 September.

The Elite console will drop the most, falling AUD $100 to an RRP of AUD $449. Anyone who takes Microsoft up on this offer before 20 October will also receive a free copy of the upcoming Halo 3: ODST. The Pro bundle also receives a drop to AUD $399, but since it has been discontinued, it will only be available while stocks last.

Meanwhile, the Arcade edition will keep its existing AUD $299 price tag.

Well the Pro console was silver, anyway. =P

Good stuff. I still have to replace my stolen 360 so that makes it a bit easier. Still looking at needing to pay off Beatles Rock Band over a couple of months tho. Grr.

I recon this is a stupid move. The reason why I got a Pro console was because I already had a PS3 and wanted just the cheap 360 with a HDD.

Now if I wanted to do this I would be forced to buy the Elite if I wanted a hard drive.

isnt the pro console $414 with two sometimes three games?

not enough in my books the arcade needed to get a cut at least by $50 and $399 is no drop at all on the Pro's... yes they now come with a couple of games but there is still no noticeable pricing difference. Let us see what happens

I figured there would eventually be a price drop in the 360 consoles. I didn't think the pro-version would be dropped though. Now I wonder if Nintendo will follow suit since the prices of their competitors' consoles is within such a close range.

The Wii needs to drop to $299 but Nintendo wouldn't do that for another 12 months.

And without BluRay and Wireless, the 360 should be $100 cheaper than the PS3.

Um yeah the Pro has been $399.95 for a long long time, way to go ms, announce a price drop then keep it the same price.

I suppose it could be worse, we could live in the UK and of received a price rise this week.

The drop to $399 is NOT on the Pro Console itself it is on the 2 official Pro Console Bundles (The one with both Gears of War games and the other one with Halo 3 and Halo Wars) which both retail for $450.

Xbox 360 Elite price has been dropped to $299.99(USD) in the US, which currently converts to about $360(AUD). Why does the Australian Market pay an additional $90(AUD) for the Xbox 360 Elite?

For someone contemplating a choice the Xbox is now $50(AUD) Cheaper than the PS3, however considering the following;
- NO WiFi,
- NO BluRay,
- additional cost for xbox live,
- Prone to failure (RRoD, E74),
- Prone to rendering discs unreadable (scratching),
the Xbox should be about $150(AUD) cheaper ..... at least!

And the PS3 Slim is US$299 which converts to AU$360 (using your numbers). Why does the Australian Market pay an additional AU$140 for the PS3 Slim?

Anyone contemplating a PS3 over a 360 should consider the following:
- you can't use the Xbox Live service
- you can't play the awesome games the 360 has
- there's no Halo on Playstation
The PS3 Slim should be free!

Trolling may not be the appropriate term, there were no errors in my points. However my original post was unfortunately somewhat bias, as having been burnt by MS with a bricked Xbox 360. Apologise for the antagonistic bias.

The points made for the 360 can easily be counteracted by pointing out that the 360;
- can't use the PSN service,
- can't play awesome PS3 (exclusive) games,
- has no Killzone.

Nevertheless the 360 has some awesome features and games, and with the imminent release of one of the best franchises in Splinter Cell Conviction the 360 looks very attractive ...... from a gaming perspective. Equally as attractive as the PS3 with services and exclusives. But from a hardware perspective $450(AUD) for the 360 Elite is nowhere near the comparative value, considering my original points.

The Xbox360 and Playstation 3 are both great systems in their own regards. I dont understand why people are so fiercely defensive over a company that exists only to take your dollars. Perhaps it's part of the human psyche to take sides. I say let the companies bicker with each other over why their toy is the best and (if you're well off enough) take advantage of the benefits each have to offer.

Hell, if I had access to loads of cash (and time to play through everything) I would get one of each!

^ i dont understand why some people are such pussies and must shove their arse in all the time talking about peace and how everything is sun shine and lollipops.

Edit:

We as customers must critic the products because of their faults.

You dont buy a brand new car and it breaks down the next day and say " oh haha silly me, funny car with its "no driving" technique " then smile and walk to work.

getting burnt by a company is a pretty strong reason - personally i don't like ATI graphics cards after an issue i had over 5 years ago which leaves me still leaning toward nVidia whenever i consider them.
however i've not been burnt by any of my consoles over the years, so i really can't be biased against any company - even MS, with whom i've had to book my only warranty return, it was handled so smoothly and quickly, i can't complain about it. (cue: "well, they've had enough practise to get it right" comments).

i will say that i agree with Jim on the lack of Wifi - or rather, the cost of the XBox wireless adapter, which is simply BS expensive.

That's no way to talk to someone you don't even know. I suppose I expect too much from someone who's balls haven't dropped yet. Didn't your folks teach you respect?

Im not talking about peace or sunshine and lollipops. It's called being optimistic and enjoying things for their strengths instead of what you obviously like to do: take things for granted with a pessimistic attitude. I suppose if attempting to talk trash to someone from the safety of your keyboard makes you feel like a tough guy, enjoy yourself and send me a private message. Otherwise stay on topic and take your angst out on your Pokemon toys or whatever mummy and daddy bought you for being a good boy and eating all your veggies..

I agree buddy, beet me to that comment.

But may I add that gaming products are taxed to the **** house and back in Australia (NFI why, movies and music aren't hit as bad either), which is why games, accessories and consoles are more expensive to buy here compared to most other countries.

Why in hell do system wars erupt in a positive news story like this??

Get your console, be happy. Leave the others alone. Unless your a Sony or MS salesman, chill out.

Seriously.
