Brand new Mass Effect achievements unveiled

360 News | New DLC finally on the way?
Fresh achievements for BioWare's science fiction RPG Mass Effect have appeared on Xbox Live, most likey relating to the long-awaited second round of Mass Effect downloadable content.

Details of the new Mass Effect DLC first surfaced earlier this year in a video included with the Platinum Hits version of the game. Casey Hudson, Project Director of the Mass Effect games, explained that the content would focus on combat, rather then storytelling, and take place in a "fight club space station". The three new awards, which can be viewed on Mass Effect's online achievements page, correlate with Hudson's description.

There are three new achievements, each worth 50 points, are as follows:
  • Undisputed: Complete Ahern's survival mission.
  • New Sheriff in Town: Take first place in any combat scenario on Pinnacle Station.
  • Best of the Best: Take first place in 12 combat scenarios on Pinnacle Station.
An official statement on new downloadable content has not yet been made from developer BioWare or publisher Electronic Arts.

The first Mass Effect DLC, titled 'Bring Down the Sky', was released in early 2008 and added an extra hour or so worth of gameplay to the sci-fi epic.

With a Mass Effect iPhone game on the market and plans for a tie-in comic, fans of the game certainly have plenty to enjoy. Mass Effect 2 is also currently doing the rounds at GamesCom 2009 in Germany, and is scheduled for release early next year.

I wonder if this'll come out for the PC version too. I really should download Bring Down the Sky first though.

You know what I think is funny? We pay for all these "bonus missions" (ie downloadable craptent - I pay for it too on the rare occasion that it is warranted), yet there is so many "optional side-quest missions" in the original game that we don't complete, that we really shouldn't need - nay, want, to buy the little critters!
I mean, if we buy a game for $100, yet we only play the core story missions and a FEW of the optional quests, why on earth would one ever consider paying for a glorified "downloadable OPTIONAL quest"? It boggles the mind...

The game doesn't really have that many optional side-quests, and if you haven't completed them all by now then you don't need the content. I'm pissed off that after two years we've been given jack **** in the way of promised content. Bethesda may stuff it up constantly, but at least they bloody release the content they promise.

Does seem pretty late really..

Don't the DLC have a longer mission and more to do usually with more story to them than most of the side quests icon_confused.gif
