Guitar Hero 5 to feature import option

360 News | For an ambiguous fee, of course.
Activision have revealed that upcoming music title Guitar Hero 5 will include the option to import tracks from both Guitar Hero: World Tour and Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits, allowing you to play those songs on Guitar Hero 5. No mention was made of Guitar Hero: Metallica, signifying that it is extremely unlikely songs from that game will be able to be imported.

It has also been confirmed that 152 of the 158 currently available downloadable tracks for Guitar Hero World Tour will be instantly compatible with Guitar Hero 5. It hasn't been confirmed however what percentage of disc songs will be transferable - as with the DLC, there are likely to be some tracks which won't be able to be imported.

The import feature has been successfully undertaken before by Rock Band 2 (yet to be released in Australia for reasons unknown). Nearly every song in Rock Band could be exported as individual files, which would then be detected by Rock Band 2. As the songs were individual files, you could also delete any that you didn't want to carry over. It is fair to assume that Guitar Hero 5 will employ a similar technique, though it was not mentioned by Activision whether individual tracks could be deleted. Also not mentioned were details of the fee or fees that would be charged to import disc tracks. In the case of Rock Band 2, a fairly small one-off fee to cover licensing was required, so hopefully it will be similar in the case of Guitar Hero 5.

In other Guitar Hero 5 news, it has also been announced that legendary musician Johnny Cash will feature in the game. Cash's song 'Ring of Fire' is also in the game.

Guitar Hero 5 is set for release on Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 on 16 September 2009.

Cash will be in the game in the form of the ever-popular corpse-cameo.

Basically, some hardcore Ozzy Osbourne-esque rocker will implement his exhumed corpse into some part of his stage act, thus earning the game the first ever R-rating in Australian gaming history.

EDIT: This is probably going to be more popular than the upcoming 50 Cent cameo in Modern Warfare 2 though.

Fiddy's cameo is going to lead-in to a spin-off game starring entirely Griggs and 50 - Call of Booty: Modern Whorefare.

True story(ies).

Consoles - be at the mercy of publishers trying to squeeze every extra $ from you.

Well I never bought World Tour or Modern Hits, so I could just hire the game and pay the small fee to have all of the songs for (hopefully)rather cheap. =D

Considering they didn't mention even a ballpark figure for the Import License, I'm going to go out on a limb and say 800-1500MSP per game. >_>

Do we know if there will be a fee at all? Rock Band AC DC has no fee, it just uses a one off code to prevent people from renting the game / buying it second hand / etc, rather than the exploitable fee system that was used by Rock Band one. And World Tour (and I'm guessing Smash Hits) have a unique code on the back of their manual, too.

^ i was wondering what those codes were for.

GH: Metallica has one too.

we'll know soon enough whats exporting and how much it costs, ign is meant to be announcing the details monday morning (us time).

edit: apparently the codes in the books are for requesting a replacement disc in the case of a faulty copy- but that doesn't mean they couldn't be used for exporting as well.

Actually, AC/DC was moreso a bigger victim than the Rock Band 1 Export Key.

Why?

The AC/DC Code was a download code that didn't even check to see if you owned the game.

Cue loads of people rushing to the video store to see the instruction manual in the box and using their camera phone.

Well then thats just stupidity on their part not to find a better way of doing it.

Surely in this generation of achievements and trophies and the like theres a smart way of doing it. Give it the code, then do a quick check to see if the game is on your played game lists. If you have both, the chances of you getting a code illegitimately are probably pretty low, since you've actually played the game, and the chances of you just renting it are pretty slim too, since you actually have an unused code. It shouldn't really be that hard, should it?

according to ign the codes in the back of the booklets are being used for the transfer. nothing about whats going to be available or how much it'll cost though...pointless announcement much?

Actually it's a pretty massive announcement, one of the few advantages RB had over GH has just been squashed. Especially seeing as three games are going ot be compatible, as well as all DLC bringing GH5's track list up around the 500 mark for anyone keeping up with releases, and without having to pay 2.50 for each song after the first 80 or so.

Is Rock Band 2 ever going to come out in Australia? I mean, I've played ROck Band, and I've played Guitar Hero, and one of the main things I love about the games is the drums, and I enjoyed the drumming way more on Rock Band, so I'm more interested in buying RB than GH, but if I buy RB it's utterly certain that RB2 will come out the day afterwards.

Ahh, cruel fate, why dost thou mock me?
