It has also been confirmed that 152 of the 158 currently available downloadable tracks for Guitar Hero World Tour will be instantly compatible with Guitar Hero 5. It hasn't been confirmed however what percentage of disc songs will be transferable - as with the DLC, there are likely to be some tracks which won't be able to be imported.
The import feature has been successfully undertaken before by Rock Band 2 (yet to be released in Australia for reasons unknown). Nearly every song in Rock Band could be exported as individual files, which would then be detected by Rock Band 2. As the songs were individual files, you could also delete any that you didn't want to carry over. It is fair to assume that Guitar Hero 5 will employ a similar technique, though it was not mentioned by Activision whether individual tracks could be deleted. Also not mentioned were details of the fee or fees that would be charged to import disc tracks. In the case of Rock Band 2, a fairly small one-off fee to cover licensing was required, so hopefully it will be similar in the case of Guitar Hero 5.
In other Guitar Hero 5 news, it has also been announced that legendary musician Johnny Cash will feature in the game. Cash's song 'Ring of Fire' is also in the game.
Guitar Hero 5 is set for release on Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 on 16 September 2009.
