Splinter Cell Conviction to remain 360 exclusive

360 News | Ubisoft confirming it will not appear on other platforms.
Splinter Cell Conviction was a pleasant surprise when it was shown at this year’s E3, but those waiting for a PS3 version could be out of luck, with Ubisoft claiming on their official forums that it will never happen.

Splinter Cell Conviction is a true Microsoft exclusive title and there are no plans to have the game appear on other platforms,” the company replied in an online dev Q&A session.

“There are several reasons behind this choice. First of all, Splinter Cell games are historically linked with Microsoft platforms. The first Splinter Cell on the original Xbox was one of the first games to fully exploit the console’s technical possibilities. Microsoft really believed in the game potential and provided strong support to promote it. So, there is a ‘link of heart’ between the franchise and the platform. Some games are like this (think of Final Fantasy for instance)."

“The second reason behind this choice is purely linked to production. Having a single target platform means that we can optimize the game even further, because we only have one type of - console - hardware to support.”

Ha, comparing Splinter Cell to Final Fantasy. Nice move.

In some cases exclusivity is the better way to go. Myself, I'm picking this up as well, as all the previous outings (apart from Pandora Tomorrow) were thoroughly enjoyable.

However, on the topic of exclusivity, I'm having serious doubts whether the market can support x3 consoles consecutively, especially when two of them (360 & PS3) are so similar. History would suggest "no".

I remember the original reason was that the PS3 couldn't handle the AI. I now somehow doubt that.

I agree with Cyph..

Different games on different consoles creates competition and raises the bar.. The same game poorly optimised for both the PS3 and X360 does nothing but maintain the status quo.. Then again the efforts of GOW and Resistance just goes to show that you can counter Grey with Brown and still not move anything forward icon_razz.gif

/me is still bitter about the loss of colour in the current generation icon_razz.gif

I'd take this over AC2 from what i have seen.

'link of heart' my ass.. more like link of $$$. It's obvious that any company with sense to make money would ship to as many consoles as humanly possible if it's worth it, so it's clear that MS poured a hundred buckets of cash over Ubi's head for an exclusive deal.

This was Kotuku's game of the show.

This game does look incredible. It's very brutal and I can't wait to play it. Double Agent was good but it needed a reboot. Can't wait for this.

Really looking foward to seeing what they do with the multiplayer as well. I feel like some cat and mouse action.

So does this mean we can call it PC exclusive too?

Because obviously you know more about how to run a sucessfull video game publishing company then Ubisoft?

I mean they're only the third largest third party games distributer in the world, what would they know about how to make money right?

It will end up on the PS3 later on. You can almost gurantee it. I think they are just focusing on getting it out the door first.

As long as it comes to the PS3 eventually. I almost bought a 360 purely for Bioshock.
