Magic: The Gathering for XBLA on Wednesday

For those of you hankering for news of this Wednesday's Xbox Live Arcade update, you will be glad to know that Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers, as well as Sam & Max Save the World, will be added to the service.

Unsurprisingly, Duels of the Planeswalkers is based on the Magic card game. Newcomers to the game will be pleased to know that there is a comprehensive tutorial included, which will make things a lot more accessible. Eight decks will be in the game, along with deck customisation and, obviously, online multiplayer options. This one will set players back 800 MS points.

As we have previously reported, Sam & Max Save the World will feature all six episodes of of the first season of PC adventures for the duo. It comes at the cost of 1600 MS points.

well well, finally........I am hearing that you can't actually edit the decks and have to use one of 8 premade decks, if that is the case, massive massive fail.

They better have included that customisation!!

oh and goddamn finally, woot!!

I get the impression it will be like the old windows version were you run around a map and fight random ai to win cards to use in your deck......hopefully

God damn i am so exicted.... Arghhhh hurry up and come on xbl ^^ wooooooo. I really hope it has expansions so yeah more cards = good heheh.

Last I heard was that there was deck customisation but it's very limited. You get your starting deck and then as you progress you get another X cards (I think it was 15 but not sure) that are specifically for your starting deck. It sounded too limited to me so I'm going to pass on this, though might play it at work where we get it for free

The way i read it, there is 8 preconstructed decks and you only have the option of having a sideboard to change the existing decks around, as far as i can tell you cannot make a deck from scratch.

oh and only 280 cards total, which sounds very limited over the whole magic universe.

**** me that just defeats half the point of the games existence in the first place...

Would be cool. but like others, lack of custom decks is pointless.

Though, i suppose it's so that not everyone just create a Tendrills decks which is a 1 turn win deck.

I think the bigger problem is the AI, god help the poor fool who has to write an AI that can even semi-intelligently play magic, I mean it'd have to know how to deal with cards like Forced Fruition or combos like Phytohydra with Pariah on it.

Just been browsing through the info on the game again and I may have changed my mind, it's only 800msp which is pretty reasonable, it has 2HG, and 3-4 player multiplayer, and perhaps the deal maker a PROMO GARRUK WILDSPEAKER card through some redemtion thing which would probably work out to be the same value as 800msp anyway

Say what? As yet there is no confirmed release of a PC version. Perhaps you are getting confused with that really old MTG game? Or maybe magic online?

played the really old magic game with itachi last night, its still awesome and a reason to not bother with this for me....Both the pc and xbla game have the same name so i guess thats why it seems like a port.

Whoops. I was thinking of the old one. I thought this was just an updated port with better graphics. Sorry for the confusion. I just got really excited the moment I saw the announcement. Also "Planeswalkers" were mentioned a lot in the original Microprose game.

So is there a quest mode still? I really liked the quest mode of the old MtG and gave a good system of card distribution and experiencing deck themes. Oh man I love the Microprose original.

The single player campaign is supposedly 40 hours long.

I tried to get the trial of Sam and Max and MTG and i think there is a problem gets to 1% download and stops other demos work fine.... sigh.

Same with me, it cuts out right at the start. I seem to also only be able to download maybe half of the graphics for menu in xbox live as well.

Yeah same when i go to whats the new arcade games none of the covers are loading for me....
