^ I'd imagine that this is just the original assets but cleaned up and presented in their best form. All the textures of the original game would be the same, but on the N64 they would have come out in a lower resolution and with that blurry anti-aliasing that was the hallmark of the console.
This isn't really any different to remastering a film as opposed to remaking it entirely.
But it certainly couldn't pass for a GameCube game Spanca, what were you thinking with that comment? A shovelware Wii game maybe, but a GameCube title no sir.
It's irrelevant though, Perfect Dark will always be sexy because it's so great ;D

Well I was thinking along the lines of some of the turd-looking Cube games I've played.
Given that PD has its roots in a 007 FPS, that's a valid comparison for the game/genre:
This version of PD could pass for a game on the same system easily.
[edit: apparently this pic doesn't load for certain n00bs.]
It's far from scientific statement based on the screenshots we've seen on this game. Is it that hard to believe, with graphic evidence, that a very late generation N64 game could pass for a Gamecube game after a significant graphical update? I'm not saying it'd compete with a good looking GCN game at all, just that this graphical update we've seen from a couple of screenshots indicates a fairly substantial improvement. Would you be more accepting if I'd said I've played worse looking Gamecube games? That's essentially the same point, restated. It's not about the Gamecube at all, it's about expressing how much of an improvement this is. You guys need to lighten up a bit.
Agent Under Fire looks better than Perfect Dark, even in HD. I'm sorry, but the leap between N64 and GCN was significant enough that there was no transitional effect where games released on the cusp of a generation looked similar on both platforms.
That's how it is. Agent Under Fire looks assy, Perfect Dark looks worse. The end.

Did I compare an N64 game to a Gamecube game? No, it was a comparison of a hi-res, updated game with that of any game from a generation launched 7 years ago.
I know I should let this go, but poor reading and comprehension is something that gets up my goat.
in pic 2 (agent under fire) the archway is curved.
you cant hd update a curve! perfect dark might look cleaner but its still made of legos trying to be curved.

And no, especially if you are talking about say animal crossing, but in this case, no.
Anyway, this will be so good. It's a sad indictment on developers that the FPS with the most multiplayer options will be an XBLA version of Pefect Dark.
Thank god for this, words cannot express how desperate I have been to play this game. I have heard fantastic things about it, but sadly I didn't play the original.
To be honest I have no problem with the visuals. I play (and love) games that look even less impressive. I think along the lines of "If the game is good, who cares about visuals?" And I really don't think the graphics are that bad.

Did you know, that in real life, everything is made of atoms, and so when you look at a curved object, you're looking at (as you so skillfully put it) a bunch of legos trying to look curved. The reason that it looks so good in real life is that the legos are so incredibly tiny. So the smaller the legos, the better it looks. When the legos get smaller, you need more of them, and thus to render them in a game, you need more processing power. Processing power that the 360 has and the N64 doesnt.
I do think, however, that in the pic that Cer posted the new textures having gone from slightly cartoony to semi-modern is a bit disappointing.
