E3 2009: Halo: Reach announced, ODST gets dated

360 News | ODST in September, Reach next year.
Bungie has confirmed, during Microsoft's E3 2009 press conference, that they are working on a new Halo title, dubbed Reach.

In addition to that, the Halo 3: ODST was given a release date of 22 September 2009. Incidentally, this is very close to the date that Halo 3 was released in 2007. The game's new co-operative mode, Firefight, will be detailed over the course of E3.

The Reach trailer had some explosions, showing the planet Reach being destroyed. It's also coming in 2010. Intriging.

Apparently, if you buy ODST, you will be able to access the online multiplayer beta. Nice.

We'll have more soon.

just to check all the main announcements from microsoft for e3 took me a good 10 minutes, so much information!

Interesting. I wonder what they are doing with the Engine, i.e. if it is the same one from Halo 3 or a complete redesign?

If it's based on the storyline from the book this will be a treat! 100 Spartans all going nuts! The story was really well done and as the first Halo book it blew me away considering it was based on a video game. Not sure what to expect but if ODST is good, I have little doubt this will also rock!

Halo 3 ODST looks pretty cool, can't wait to see what they do with Reach, I have always wanted a game based on the book though.

I thought ODST was probably one of the least impressive looking game last night. Compared to other recent FPS its looking rather bland. Im sure ill get it as it will be a decent FPS, but wont be mind blowing.

Hoping Reach raises the bar a bit more (ie closer to Killzone2 graphically)

I don't think they try to get awesome graphics with the Halo games. I love Halo 3's graphics, but they don't look as realistic as a lot of shooters, but they are so colourful, and I like it that way.

Yeah, it's a different style, the Halo graphics actually remind me a lot of Giants or Evolva, works really well I think (I've never had a real issue with Halo visually). I think I may jump on the Halo bandwagon, from what I played back in the day it was generic as hell, but seeing as the original is available on Live might as well take the plunge.

^+1. It's not about the graphics, it's just about the gameplay. Unlike most FPS, Halo 3 has always seemed to be much more strategical/tactical, rather than relying on twitch reflexes you instead have to set yourself up to be ready for the enemy.

Absolutely can't wait for this, ODST is definitely shaping up to be more tactical then the other Halo games. (That is if they have removed health regen and they've reduced your height, limited acrobatic manoeuvrability, etc. )

Shall be awesome =]

EDIT: And completely agree with the graphics thing, the colours do make it really vibrant and the I love the environments. I couldn't have Halo any other way.

Reach was a surprise, really. I thought Bungie were going to start work on a non Halo-related project, but hey, you got what you got. Cannot wait for Gameplay footage.

I've been waiting for a game based on Reach since I read the book all those years ago. Can't wait till ODST comes out for the beta!

No, ODST is out September. It is a shorter campaign, and will also incorporate Halo 3's multiplayer, while adding a string of new maps.

Looks great. Can't wait.
