E3 2009: Forza 3 announced

360 News | Out later this year.
Microsoft has revealed Forza 3 is in development at its E3 2009 press conference.

The trailer shown demonstrated just how sleek and sexy the game is looking. There is a new graphics engine that runs at 60 frames per second, with the developers calling it the 'definitive racer'. There's also a video editor and over 450 cars to drive in-game. It will apparently be shipping in October this year, so it sounds like motorsport fans will know what to ask Santa for this Christmas.

We'll have more info and media over the coming days of E3.

I just jizzed in my pants.

A follow up, with 450 cars no less, to my favourite 360 game (I still play regularly). Awesome.

Jeez 450 cars, now just hopefully they have a few different tracks you can race on instead of the 8 or so in Forza 2 that were used in different combinations.

Bingo TheAnswer; Forza #1 on the 360 was awesome, but damn it needed more tracks!

450 cars? He said 'over 400 cars from 50 manufacturers' in the presentation...

Can't wait for this game. Loved Forza 2 and this looks much nicer.

Funny they are pumping out 2 x full Forza games on 360 before GT5 comes out (I realise they put out GT5p). GT5 had better be DAMN good. GT5p wasnt that impressive imo.

I've updated the article with some screenshots.

Agreed. They've managed to make one, most likely two Forza games before we've even seen a full GT game.

*shakes fist

Hope its worth the GT wait.

Yeah but you forget something, Forza might have over 400 cars. GT5 will have over 400 different versions of Skylines alone.

I'm not a fan of racing games but damn that looks good! Forza was always fun though because of the realism.

I just remembered, they haven't said what the 'special feature' this game is supposed to have that required the new Porsche-branded racing wheel to be held back? You'd think something like that would get a word in...

Looks great and the track shown looks much more detailed and interesting than the ones in number 2. Heres hoping they bring back the mountain road driving as well!

I really should play Forza 2, I've just yet to be in the mood for a racing simulator. I've done one track though. Maybe this weekend I'll have a crack at F2.

You guys aren't half wrong about the lack of tracks. I really hope they put some more in, and international ones at that. It'd be great to see some proper international race tracks in there (maybe a street circuit or two). I think I'd be in heaven if they threw in a few that are used for F1 races.

Include the Winton Motorway! Forza 3 Summernats edition, all the bare breasts and burnt rubber you can hope for.

Forza 3 actually being released > waiting until the PS4 ships.

I have to admit, those ground textures on the side of the road looks pretty rubbish, I suppose they'll have a bit of blur going most of the time to mask that. I think the DIRT2 engine looks better, though I'm glad the Forza team didn't go for the whole superbloom effect.

Still, graphics smaphics, the further we get into this generation the less important the technical side is becoming in my view.

^ Sums it up for me too.

450 cars, over 100 tracks. Limitless customization with plenty of engine upgrade options (hopefully they expand this some more), not to mention the ability to do finite tweaks and changes to various settings within your car.

Not to mention those brilliant graphics running at 60 frames, it looks like it'll definitely be a challenger to the Grand Turismo series.

I'm betting that they're tweaking the track visuals, probably just wanted to make the cars perfect for the unveil then focus on the rest before it's released, considering this is the first we've heard about the game I'm betting it's still a little ways off.

^ They've been working on it since Forza 2 shipped. They've just been tight lipped about it, other than an early announcement to acknowledge it existed. icon_smile.gif

I hope there's some Australian cars in it this time under their real names.

At the E3 2009 Microsoft Press Conference, Turn 10 mentioned a rewind feature, but did not say exactly what it did. It was later revealed on G4's day 1 E3 2009 coverage that the rewind feature will allow players to turn back time to fix previous mistakes made on the track. The rewind feature has no limit on how many times it can be done or time between rewinds.

During another interview at E3 2009, game director Dan Greenawalt, has revealed that besides improvements to the AI and physics the new graphic engine features ten times more polygons in each car model, and a texture resolution that is four times higher than before.

Rewind sounds interesting, although as a motorsport fan, that takes away the thrill and challenge of stringing together a perfect lap with every corner and every sector being perfect. It's essentially like stringing together a huge combo in another sort of game.

As for the release date... 3 days before my birthday couldn't be any better icon_biggrin.gif
