Resident Evil 5 sales figure revealed

360 News | Most likely over the five million mark.
Capcom’s chief financial officer Kazuhiko Abe revealed last week at the Tokyo Reuters Technology Summit, that Resident Evil 5 has more than likely sold over five million copies worldwide since launch.

There was a reported 4.4 million units sold in March, with another 570,000 sales in April. Abe said that sales figures for May have yet to be counted but that it’s probably just over reaching the milestone mark of five million.

The huge sales drop off between initial months didn’t seem to have Capcom fazed either, with Abe saying they only expect to sell around another 500,000 copies between now and March next year.

With the PC version still to come, RE5 must be getting closer to the combined sales of RE4 sitting currently at 5.2 million.

Complete. Global. Saturation.

I wonder if sales for 6 will decrease after 5...Not that 5 was bad, but this game was a sequel to a game regarded by many as the best ever. It was always going to beat the sales figures of 4 as well as it was a GCN exclusive for a year which would kill a large number of sales. I just think that perhaps RE5 has made many people lose confidence.

Long live Resident Evil.

Bring on the next!

I didn't like this game as much as 4 and I believe it was largely due to the 24-30fps pain I experienced while playing it on PS3 (although kudos to the PS3 version for enabling v-sync) and the MASSIVE tearing I experienced while playing it on the 360 (albeit, at a solid 30fps). Either way, RE4 had neither of these problems on Wii so I rate it a better game.

Good point Qbert, unless something majorly different is done with RE6, I doubt it will sell as high. My personal opinion is that the series needs to return to SURVIVAL HORROR.

If you set the 360 to 720P (re5's native res) and let your tv scale to 1080P, the tearing goes away. The PS3 doesn't have the sync issues because of the lack of console based 1080p scaling.

The worst thing about RE5 for me was that it was far too easy on normal/regular. I kept playing conservatively, waiting for the difficulty to ramp up - it never came (when it's that easy it breaks immersion). The other issue is that cpu Sheva is downright silly - so you really need two people to have fun. Jun Takeuchi wasn't up to the job...
