Multiplayer confirmed for Dead Rising 2

360 News | No specifics yet except that it will be online.
Following the Dead Rising 2 trailer that recently hit the net, Eurogamer has reported Capcom's Keiji Inafune has confirmed that the title will indeed feature multiplayer, speaking from Captivate 09 last week.

"We're at a point in game history that you need to have some form of multiplayer component in a game," Inafune said.

"Single player alone is not going to cut it. So rest assured we are going to put multiplayer in the game, but I can't go into specifics about what type of multiplayer as that directly relates to some of the game systems that we don't want to talk about at this event. It will be online multiplayer, so keep that in mind."

A few other pieces of information were also revealed, including that the new engine being used is able to draw up to 7,000 zombies on screen at once, compared to 500 from the original installment.

This statement makes me cry a little bit.

Do not want tacked on multiplayer for the sake of it, thanks.

Read: my CEO or VP or Marketing Manager told me we have to include this, so I bowed under the pressure and gave in even though the game isn't really suited to it: No longer are you a lone survivor surrounded by mindless zombies! You either have a bunch of pre-pubescent Texas bad-mouths or the Zombies suddenly become conniving, wily tea-baggers. =P

Yeah it sucks that they're basicly being forced into it, but I'll let it slide cause multiplayer in Dead Rising would be fucking awesome.

I think it would suit the game though, you wern't a lone survivor in the first game you spent half of it with irritating AI companions, the game would have been like 100 times better if someone else could play them instead of the computer.

Just don't play with randoms online.

To be honest, multiplayer Dead Rising could be really quite a bit of fun - it's not the fact that Dead Rising 2 will have multiplayer; it's the quote from Inafune which I am sure represents a sentiment in many developer houses right now, and I don't think it bodes well.

I love co-op; my wife and I are both avid gamers, so games with well done co-op are a godsend. But when multiplayer becomes a 'must have' feature for games, multiplayer/co-op gaming is going to suffer.

I would have loved multiplayer in the first one, and forced or not, just sticking in an extra character would have been good enough for me.

This game really didnt/dosent need subtle hugely balanced multiplayer. Just throw in another person and double the zombies and boss hp/dammage. Win.

OK, this is the type of game that needs co-op.

ALTHOUGH imagine if they had online modes like capture the flag with hordes of zombies in the way. That would be VERY good.

Oh shit, It only just occured to be how awesome typical online game modes would be if they took place inside a casino swarming with over 7k zombies on screen, Even deathmatch etc would be awesome.

Okay, multiplayer for this may actually work quite well but I completely disagree with the statement that it's an essential component of a game. It makes me both cry and die when I hear it.
