Broken Steel DLC priced, dated

360 News | If it IS broken, DO fix it.
Bethesda has announced a date and price for the third pack of downloadable content for their apocalyptic opus Fallout 3, this one entitled Broken Steel.

The date for release has been set as May 5, with a price of 800 Microsoft points.

The Broken Steel pack makes some quite significant changes to the overall Fallout 3 experience. The game's original ending has been reworked so as to allow the Broken Steel quests to extend the main story. Previously, finishing the main quest meant finishing the game entirely, but players will now be able to continue playing indefinitely beyond the main quest after downloading Broken Steel.

To further accomodate these changes, the level cap has been raised from 20 to 30, meaning you'll have to slay many more Super Mutants in order to max out your character.

The DLC adds six additional achievements to Fallout 3, collectively worth 150 Gamerscore points. This brings the game's total to 1350 points.

Broken Steel will be available for both the Xbox 360 and PC versions of Fallout 3. Owners of the PlayStation 3 version will unfortunately miss out.

Irrelevant. A stupendous majority of people who use Windows as their operating system don't play games like Fallout 3 on it. If you can find me proof that 0.1% of all Windows users worldwide have loaded up and played Fallout 3 on Windows, I will truly be amazed.

Look at the history of Bethesda's engine here. It was designed to run on an Xbox 360 and a PC back in the Oblivion days. The similarity of the APIs you use make that a very viable prospect for any developer. The PS3 was an afterthought as is evidenced by the fact that Oblivion came out much later. They managed a simultaneous release of Fallout 3, but given the obvious maturity of the engine on other platforms DLC could very well have technical issues with their code on the PS3 that they have not yet overcome.

Now, given that there has been no confirmation nor denial of any MS money deals for the DLC here, is this alternate theory really that hard to believe?

How in the world is it irrelevant? Playing Fallout 3 on PC means you AREN'T playing it on the Playstation 3. It's all about market share, and Microsoft makes money off both the 360 and the PC. If you aren't spending money on a PS3 you're probably spending money on a Microsoft platform instead. I doubt Microsoft freely give out "Games for Windows Live" to developers, either...

GooberMan, when you buy Fallout 3 DLC on PC, you pay with the very same MS points as you do on 360. Irrelevant? Hahahaha.

It makes very little money from the PC gaming side of things. Those 800 MS Points that you guys hold so dearly will cover real costs like data hosting and publishing. On a PC, as there's already a clearly identifiable trend that the majority of users won't use their PC for games like Fallout 3 there's virtually no incentive for a company whose main product is a dominant operating system. The Xbox however is, of course, a different story.

I'd also like to see you back up your claims that playing it on a PC means you aren't playing it on a PS3. I regularly play Left 4 Dead on Xbox and PC for example.

*ahem* Like I said, there's nothing I find funnier than people who know nothing about the games industry making wild claims.

Anyhoo....

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/04/fallout-3-broken-steel-gameplay-footage/

Kotaku has put up a video from G4 of an interview with some guys from Bethesda which shows gameplay footage.

True it looks the same as the rest of Fallout 3, but the expanded level cap and new weapons/enemies/perks makes up for this in my opinion.

Only a couple of weeks now...
