Ubisoft officially confirms Assassin's Creed II

360 News | Mamma Mia!
While we all knew it was coming, today Ubisoft saw fit to officially announce the impending release of Assassin's Creed II. In a press release, they confirmed that Ubisoft Montreal is "developing Assassin’s Creed II on all current-generation platforms for a scheduled Christmas 2009 launch."

This time around, we'll be playing as Ezio - "a privileged young noble in Renaissance Italy who's been betrayed by the rival ruling families of Italy." Ezio’s adventure will provide players with a "captivating and epic story that offers more variety in missions, surprising and engaging new gameplay elements, diverse weapons and a profound character progression that will appeal to fans of the original Assassin’s Creed as well as entice players new to the brand."

Ubisoft has stated that the original creative team behind the first game has been working on Assassin’s Creed II for over two years and that, as expected, they're working hard to improve upon the experience. Patrice Desilets, Creative Director at Ubisoft said, “We’ve made improvements to every aspect of the game. And we’ve plunged ourselves into the stunning history of the Italian Renaissance so that we can offer fans a unique, varied and innovative Assassin’s Creed experience.”

PALGN will be following this one closely and will bring you more details as they come to hand. As to whether the phrase "current-generation platforms" includes the Wii, MTV Multiplayer quotes a Ubisoft spokesperson as saying, “We have only announced Xbox 360, PS3, PC and PSP.” Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I liked the first one, but hopefully there will be a little more variety in the gameplay this time.

Hopefully there'll be more of the future sequences. They were the most compelling part of the original game, yet comprised about 1% of the game time.

There was an ad in today's MX for a pretty cool easter egg on the Assassin's Creed site:

^^^ I saw that ad on the train and I took a double take seeing a full page ad for a game that was only confirmed the other day. No release info on it though.

For those who do not know, the mX is a free newspaper owned by HWT (Herald Sun) which is handed out at train stations and in stands in melbourne's cbd in afternoon peak <_<

Didn't know that. Yay mX!

Indeed the downfall of AC 1 was repetitive gameplay that left me utterly bored by the 3rd city.

Really hope they manage to mix it up and keep it interesting.
