Perfect Dark heading to XBLA?

360 Rumour | Oh Rare, you big tease.
With Banjo-Tooie scheduled to be released on the Xbox Live Arcade later this month, Rare has shown off a new premium theme to go with the game. While themes are released on a weekly basis, what has caught the attention of Rare fans is the appearance of a Perfect Dark icon in one of the demo shots.

In an image displaying the My Xbox blade of the 360 dashboard, a Joanna Dark icon is clearly shown in the "Latest Games" section, cheekily covered by the user's avatar's hand. Notably, the icon is of the N64 Joanna Dark, and not of the modern Perfect Dark Zero incarnation. Rare and Microsoft have refused to comment on the image at this time, though knowing Rare we'd say the icon was added there purposely to hint at a future announcement. Or to be really, really mean. More as it comes.

I see all the fuss over the PD 'placeholder' icon but I can't for the life of me recognise the second icon in his profile, anyone know what it is?

As some of you know, Perfect Dark on the N64 is my favourite game ever made... So naturally, if it's not just one of those Rare In-Jokes like the Killer Instinct 3 stocking on the Christmas Card they sent out last year, to say I'll be excited would be an understatement.

If it's a release that incorperates modernised controls, 16 player online play, and a high resolution HUD like Banjo Kazooie got, then I'll be ecstatic.

Or if it's just a joke, I'll just lol ...and weep silently

It looks like the icon for some shooter game on the XBLA whos name I forget A13x

This is why I'm considering getting a 360.I'm sick of the crap uninteresting stuff PSN is constantly updated with.

I've always said I would never pay for XBL but this is why I know think I would.

Pfft... the PSN games wipe the floor with XBL.

And Perfect Dark was great for it's time but who would seriously play a blocky/low poly first person shooter with dodgy controls for more than 5 minutes?

And don't even say, they might polish it, because PDZ was the biggest joke on the 360.

Rare fluked Goldeneye, right place right time and other than cashing in on it with a few different textures and themes with Perfect Dark 64, they have been not much more than a 1 hit wonder. It's why Nintendo gladly let them go.

I would, happily.
PD was made of serious win. It's still my favourite console shooter of all time.

Those blocky/low poly FPS wipe their ass with the crap that is out today, if you put Perfect Dark next to Crysis, I would go for Perfect Dark.

I put many, many hours into that game, and it is still one of my favourite shooters, second only to NOLF2.

I don't know, ask Nintendo why VC games sell so well.

Pfft to me the Donkey Kong Country series is THE finest platform series ever.Killer Instinct is my second favourite fighting series behind Tekken.

Also I never really liked Goldeneye but I thought PD was awesome.

I could see the co-op and multiplayer being popular over XBL. More so than doom or duke nukem anyway.

I'd get it.

If goldeneye was a fluke what was Donkey Kong Country, Diddy Kong Racing, Killer Instinct, Banjo Kazooie, Jet Force Jemini, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Battle Toads, Blast Corps, etc etc.

Face it, as much as they might or might not have fallen now days. Back in the day Rare were the ****

Corect me if I'm wrong, but I dont think that any of the staff in Rare today is comprised of a single staff member responsible for the great N64 titles that were snapped up back in the day. They are Rare only by name now..

The crew that did GoldenEye and Perfect Dark went on to form the (now unfortunately defunct) FreeRadical. If you want to experience more of their trademark fun & quality, be sure to check out the Timesplitters series. It's a damn shame that LucasArts sh*tcanned the project, as Battlefront III was looking simply amazing. I suppose LA is more interested in quick video game releases to tie in with whatever $tar War$ crap George Lucas is pooping out these days than something with actual quality..

Well, Rare can't make a good game these days to save themselves so they may as well re-release the classics the old team made to cash in on the success they once had.

I've still got my copy of PD and my 64 still works fine so I think I'll just stick to that thanks.

Viva Pinata, Kameo Elements of Power (And in my oppinion) Banjo and Kazooie Nuts and Bolts would like to disagree with you.

I agree with you that Rare suck these days(Sorry Benza did not like those games but haven't played Kameo), but I still think would snap this up in an instant if released (and I also already own the game). There would have to be a lot of improvements, not to mention xbox LIVE play, leaderboards and achievements.

Pretty much. Martin Hollis and David Doak were pretty major players in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, and they left, Hollis founding Zoonami. A very large portion of their shooter development department left for Free Radical, as well as various other places (some went to EA I think). I even think the guy that did all that awesome music for the likes of Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong is now gone, although I could be wrong.

The two founders of Rare even left, along with quite a bit of staff.

Rare have a lot of great IPs and still make quality games, but the reality is their studio just isn't made up of the same people it was during the SNES/N64 days. It takes people to make good games, and if those people arn't there...you get something different.

Yeah, because Zoonami have some total killer games, and Free Radical's latest game was pure awesome.

Rare's recent offerings have been good and PDZ wasn't all that bad compared to some other games released this generation

Yeah, because I totally talked up both Zoonami and Free Radical.

I was just stating the situation. That’s where developers went. Perfect Dark Zero wasn’t half as good as the original. The team isn’t the same anymore. ~fin.

You know, I loved N64 Rare, and regard Goldeneye as my favourite game ever, but I have never played Perfet Dark. Isn't that weird?

It'd be awesome if it was, but I noticed that, the icon is a crappy cutout while teh other icons are specially made icons...

To be fair, it would be very difficult for any developer to follow up Perfect Dark with a game that has the same impact as its predecessor in such a competitive genre.

Placeholder icons are common during development.
