Resident Evil 5 bargain round-up

360 News | It's an act of evil to pay full price.
It’s time to turn the lights off and take a trip to Africa in the comfort of your living room - Resident Evil 5 is released tomorrow and to celebrate we’ve compiled a list of specials which will be on offer around Australia. To start off though, we’re going to explain the different packs that are available.

Resident Evil 5 is available in three packs – a standard edition, steelbook edition and collector’s pack. The standard edition retails for $119.95 and just includes a copy of the game. The steelbook edition is slightly more expensive at $129.95, and includes a copy of the game, a steelbook case and a bonus disk featuring a 60 minute ‘Making Of’ documentary and trailer for the Resident Evil Degeneration film. Last but not least is the collector’s pack, which is usually $169.95 (ouch). It contains a copy of the game with a steelbook case, a 3 inch Chris Redfield figurine, a Kljuju necklace, a BSAA clothing patch and a Tricell messenger bag.

With that out the way, the standard edition of Resident Evil 5 will be only $84 at JB Hi-Hi until Sunday (after which it will be $99). In case you can't get down to your local store before Sunday, then Wow - Sight and Sound will be charging only $88. Those wanting the Steelbook edition can grab a copy at JB Hi-Fi for $119, sadly there are no alternatives that we are aware of. Finally, the Collector’s pack isn’t on sale at any retailers, though you can purchase it from JB Hi-Fi’s online store for $149 (Xbox 360 link, PS3 link).

If you’re anything like us, chances are you spent all your hard earn cash a few weeks ago on Halo Wars and/or Killzone 2. Fortunately, JB Hi-Fi have got you covered by offering the standard edition for FREE if you trade-in two games – as always remember to check their exclusions list (.pdf file) before walking into your local store. The offer last until Sunday, after which you'll be required to trade-in three titles. If that doesn’t tickle you fancy, then EB Games is offering a deal where you’ll get the standard edition for $39.95 if you trade-in 2 games that are on their eligible titles list.

Additionally, EB Games is offering a Xbox 360 bundle which includes a limited edition red Xbox 360 120 GB Elite console, Resident Evil 5 standard edition, Halo Wars limited edition and redeem codes for a Resident Evil 5 premium theme and Street Fighter 2 HD Turbo Remix via the Xbox Live Marketplace. It will set you back $569. Also, the standard edition of Resident Evil 5 at JB Hi-Fi comes with a bonus figurine – better be quick though, as stores have very limited stock.

Dam, these have been the worst deals for a big name game for ages. I guess with the Christmas competition over they can charge what they want as there's not many games to choose form. I think I'll have to go either JB or pricematch at EB for $99. Anyone know if you can get the figurene at JB without pre-ordering?

It depends on the store, those that filled up their pre-order quota will only have enough figurines for the pre-orders. Some stores had more ordered then those that were pre-ordered so hopefully if your lucky enough to go into a JB talk to one of the games people there may be some figurines left over. Usually for pre order stuff like that that we have left over we give them to those that buy it on the first day.

JB Hi-Fi online have the standard editions for $79.00 until Sunday. This offer is not available in store. I checked.

I noticed the uber-edition isn't on the listing.

I think JB had them advertised at $149 and EB at RRP of $169.95.
I worked out the cheapest way to nab this sucker is the 15% off voucher for EB. EB have removed the listing from the website so I assuming they have met their stock limitation. I have no idea how JB is sitting in that respect.

I inquired about JB's 79 online price they said for retail it'll be 84 which I promptly bought.

Though this was at JB Dandenong, not sure if it's nation wide.

^ Sorry guys. It was $79 this afternoon.

I must admit I'm annoyed. Suddenly it is $84 in store? I bought it online thinking it would be cheaper. Now I have paid more and I have to wait to get it. So much grrrrrr right now.

Jb hifi and online are run by two totally separate groups - hence the usual discrepancy between the two. Its freaking annoying for staff and consumers alike i must say

When you look at the srp it's actually what you would expect. Take Halo Wars, it retails for $99.95. On launch most people would have been able to grab it for around $80, so $20 less than the SRP.

RE5 is $119.95 for the standard edition alone. So that's a $26 discount you're getting at Big W. Now, I need to refer back to the cost price. Most stores I'm guessing would pay $80-$90 for RE5, there's simply no way Capcom could justify a SRP that high otherwise.

This is aimed at all general JB questions. I can't speak for the online store, you're going to have to take it as you see it. As for in-store, I've been hearing about all sorts of different prices. Some people have claimed it's $84 in-store, others have said it's still $99 as stated in the catalogue. All I can say is please wait until tomorrow. If the price is $84 for JBs nationwide, I'll change the price. As for the collector's pack, I'm guessing most have been accounted for via pre-order. And yes, I'm aware there are rumours of the PS3 RE5 trade-in deal being two games not three. Until I have concrete proof, it's staying as three.

Okay, RE5 is now $84 at JB Hi-Fi until sunday. Trade-in deal is also for TWO games, not three. Updating article now.

I see on the WOW Sight & Sound catalogue that Tetris (360) is $18 and not on the JB exclusion list, so that should be a good trade bait.

Got mine from JB for $84 after a failed attempt to price match at GAME, who want $119.95.
