Halo Wars bargain round-up

360 News | War can be costly, so here's how you can make it a little cheaper.
It has certainly been a while since our last bargain round-up, but with big titles starting to be released we thought it was time to bring back these articles. This week Xbox 360 owners across the globe are celebrating the release of the Microsoft’s real-time strategy game Halo Wars. To make sure you don’t pay full price, we’ve compiled a list of specials which are on offer across Australian retailers. To start off though we’re going to explain the different versions that are available.

Like most big name releases these days, Halo Wars is available in a standard edition and limited edition set. The standard edition is of course just the standalone game and normally retails for $99.95. The Limited Edition however, includes three new multiplayer maps for Halo 3, a Halo Wars: Genesis graphic novel, a Spirit of Fire patch which lets you start the game as a Spirit of Fire crew member, an in-game 'Honor Guard' Wraith vehicle and six leader cards. This pack is slightly more expensive at a suggested retail price of $119.95.

Unfortunately not a lot of retailers seem to have fallen for the hype of this release, and as such only a few places are offering discounts. The standard edition is the cheapest at Wow – Sight and Sound where you can pick it up for only $78, while GAME comes in second place with their price tag of $79. Those wanting the limited edition should head into Big W for their price tag of $94, while JB Hi-Fi are charging only $99 for it.

It’s worth mentioning Microsoft has started a promotion where if you purchase any new Xbox 360 console, regardless of the model, you’ll receive a bonus copy of Halo Wars. This deal should be available at all retailers, though is subject to availability. Lastly, EB Games is offering a trade-in deal where you’ll be able to purchase the standard edition of Halo Wars for $19.95 if you trade-in two games that are on their eligible games list. Alternatively, you can trade in three Xbox 360 games at JB Hi-Fi and it for FREE - just make sure the three games you want to trade-in aren't on the exclusions list (.pdf file).

For a complete list of bargains please see below. If you have anything to add to this list please leave a message in the comments section or email joseph.rositano@palgn.com.au.

Cheers Passa and Shiraj, you guys are legends. $80.99 of Halo Wars LTD is just what I was looking for. The $12 for express post was tempting, but I can wait a few extra days..

Don't forget it's for an NTSC-J version, probably still region-free though

Ohhhh.. yeah it's got a tick for PAL.. but I didn't realise it was NTSC-J.

Hope this doesn't mean the boxart/manual etc are in Japanese.

Hmm, well the language on the website does say 'English' and based on all the other region free games I've bought from Asia, the manual comes in both languages. Either way, it's still a small price to pay...

Well the Big W catalogue shows the Limited Edition for $94 and all EB have to see is the cover (which is distinctly different than normal) and they will price match. So I will just take the catalogue in tomorrow ,show them, and get the Ltd Edition for $94

The BigW price is $94 for the LIMITED edition, best around.

I got my copy from kmart price matching. gave me a further 10% of the difference off using their little known price match policy making it about $91.50.

My cunning plan:

Bought 2 $20 games from EB (The Outfit and Stuntman Ignition) to trade in at JB with my copy of Devil May Cry 4 to get the LMT edition for free.

In short, I payed $40 for Halo Wars.

Mwahaha.
