Dead Rising 2 announced

360 News | More rotten flesh to feast on.
While it’s been known for a few weeks that Capcom would be releasing a sequel to Dead Rising, the company hasn’t revealed too many details other than it would be a multiplatform title. Today however, Capcom sent out a press release clarifying some more information.

Dead Rising 2 is set a few years after the original game. With the zombie virus uncontained after the zombie invasion of Willamette, it has now been spreading across the United States unchecked. Not much else is known about the story, though apparently players will be hacking up zombie scum in the gambling paradise of Fortune City. There will also be a ton of new weapons to wield, though Capcom haven’t specified more on the subject. The game is in development at Canadian studio Blue Castle Games, and is being worked on in conjunction with members of the original’s development team. One name of note is Capcom’s global head of research and development, Keiji Inafune, who is acting as the game’s producer.

Capcom have promised more details will be revealed at a later date. Dead Rising 2 is expected to be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. No release period has been confirmed as of yet. You can check out some screenshots in the media panel below.

No Frank West? He's covered wars, y'know.

I wonder whether a casino will have the diversity of weaponry that you might find in a mall. I'm sure it'll deliver, though I'm not sure anything can top the shower nozzle from the first game.

Grammar, I mourn for you.

On another note, please don't judge games until you actually play them.

I hope they give you multiple saves this time or get rid of the mission time system. Imagine if they did that in GTA IV. You don't get to the final mission on time so you fail the whole game. That's the main thing that I didn't like about the original Dead Rising.

Loved the original Dead Rising.
Pretty sure the casino environment will be fine as most are like glamarous malls these days anyway..

Man this game looks awesome. Never played the first one but seeing a zombie being put down with a giant mobile phone made this an instant purchase. And when I saw this I immediately thought:

Can i just point out something i found somewhat groundbreaking in the original? it might digressive or even weird, but i was quite proud of capcom for introducing (as far as i know) the first protagonist with BODY HAIR. Ive always felt that considering the majority of real males are not smooth and glistening, the male anatomy has been largely unrelatable and under represented.

it always bugs me when character customization (obviously not dead rising specific) does not include a body hair parameter, as it can be quite a defining characteristic. frank is the most realistically presented character to me so far.

i may be obsessing over this too much, but even as a completely straight male, i keep finding myself alienated from the vg industry's projection of male anatomy. i also get distracted by thoughts of "how, through all the mayhem, do these guys find the necessity and opportunity to wax down?"

yes, yes, i know its a strange comment, but nobody else seems to be willing to talk about it anywhere else so im dragging it out into the light. icon_razz.gif

I'd say body hair is usually omitted because it's difficult have in a texture map and expensive to render.

Also, how often do you get close enough to someone in a game to notice that? Anyway most of the focus is on the face, not the arms, legs or chest (if they are even visible).
